I was a bit upset when I read this, as she was only 32 years old.  My own father passed of a coronary at 36.  It really reminds you that death can come anytime, anywhere without warning.

Brittany Murphy Passed Away

After the past three weekends, I only have this to say - DEAR LORD, Joss, WHY didn't you RAMP THIS SH** UP SOONER!?!?!?!!?!? The phrase "Better late than never" does NOT APPLY to television!  It is unbelievable to me that he had all of this waiting for us and we just now found out.

For those of you who may not know it or are just curious, ever since Fox started putting two hours of Dollhouse on every Friday (which started 3 weeks ago now), EVERY Episode has been packed with chardev, plot points, and full-on escalating win. We got to see some of Rossum's evil members, we got to see that Adelle is being closely watched because of how freaky Echo's been, we got to see Rossum put a Senator into play with one of the GREATEST BAIT AND SWITCH moments in TV since Alias, and all in all it's just been solid platinum entertainment.

Then tonight, we get a double whammmy of UTTER revelation for Rossum's plot as well as Joss's ideas!??! We finally get to see the Attic, the creepy place that I think Joss *lives* in in his head - everything just struck me as Joss penultimately expressing how utterly dark his mind can be. Then we find out what I've been dying to know for a while now - what one of the ultimate expressions of the software Rossum has. These things can be summed up in two bullet points from other Sci-Fi that he basically just ripped off but did it so WELL that I forgive him:
1) "Arcade" (a badly executed but brilliant idea from the B-movie company Full Moon Entertainment)
2) The Borg.

Rossum has chips that can synchronize THOUGHT!!! "Hive Mind Engaged." WHAT THE *$#*@? IF ST:TNG HAD HAD THIS LEVEL OF WRITING IN SEASON SIX, WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THE REPUGNANT HUGH-BORG FINALE. We could've seen the origin of the Borg as some horrid post WWIII plot expermenting on humans!  This was a fantastic idea, and should have been dwelled on even more than it was, and may come back to haunt them later.  I hope so.

And Rossum's attic was BRILLIANT! It was the finest concepts of basic Sci-Fi brought about in such a horrific, dark way that you can just see Joss's hand personally molding it into the most twisted visions of his mind. If there's one thing Joss has proven he's good at, it's dream imagery - though the Buffy dream episode still bothers me because it left so much unexplained about the characters' psyche's, he likes it that way - THIS version made EVERYTHING clear, and also brought about the evolution of Adelle, Victor, Sierra, and the developer of the Doll technology - who, by the way, is living inside Summer Glau, guaranteed. I'll mark that as a guaranteed 10 dollar bet, right here, right now.

I'm so excited I could cry - If you'd been able to deliver this last season, Joss, you might have had a third year. As it happens, you've made me happier than any other show you've ever produced other than Angel Season 2, which I still believe was a triumph of philosophical and character development... Oh, and probably Serenity, which was of course, the pinnacle achievement of your work.

I don't want to wait three weeks for the end, I want to see this NOW!  Check out some images from tonight's amazing episodes - and be sure to let us know, what did you guys think??

Dollhouse: Quick thoughts and Stills

This is going to be just as good as the first movie, Im willing to bet. Robert Downey Jr. was, indeed, born to play this role, continuing to play Tony Stark with the combination of offbeat genius, devil-may-care risk taking and confidence bordering on or just plain flying straight into arrogance. Gwyneth Paltrow is still as attractive(to me at least) as ever, and Im glad to see they're playing upon the opening up of their relationship as established in the first one.

Ive heard some crap being slung around about Whiplash, but honestly, have these people seen the comic books? He's even more ridiculous there. This version seems to actually have a minor degree of depth and an honestly creepy, oozing sort of villainy about him. Then, of course, there's War Machine and Iron Man kicking ass against what appear to be Stark-tech armor clones, likely drones, and VERY likely stolen. Either that or its some sort of danger-room style scenario, which would be lame. I dont think this movie will have that sort of lameness to it, ever.

War Machine in Action

Im starting to get the feeling that these two characters will end up stealing the movie away from the supposed main character; I believe Cage had to have had an immense amount of fun with this one, and Moretz is just way too chibi-cute and yet believably scary as a tiny killer. They'll likely(assuming the movie turns out to either be as popular as I bet, or a cult classic sort of thing) become fan-favorites. Not neccesarily a bad thing.

Also, I like and dislike the Batman homage that Big Daddy is, as seen below. I like it, because the armor is logical and looks pretty cool. I dislike it because EVERY non-powered superhero type past a certain age seems to be a sort of Batman pastiche. I fear it becoming something of a cliche, and the last thing Batman should be is a cliche.

New Kickass poster, funny clip as well

Ok. Id not heard of this movie even being in production until I stumbled across this trailer. I know, I know, tis a shocking crime that Im sure Ill be punished for later. Especially since, from the looks of what I saw, this is going to be a pretty cool and fun movie to see.

The name of the movie admittedly gives much of the actual verbiage of the trailer away; Nicholas Cage plays an eccentric looking sorcerer(basically, himself with magic powers) looking for an apprentice. He finds one, and introduces him to the weird world he'll be inhabiting. Fireballs, shapeshifting people and cars, teleportation, explosions, all sorts of things. Turns out his apprentice is supposed to be a force for good, and a potent one at that; its fortunate the otherwise-average man takes to it rather gleefully. I imagine this will also include the infamous 'replicating broomstick' mistake, but hopefully spin it into something a tad larger.

Nicholas Cage is a sort of hit or miss actor; either what he's starring in is epic win, or its a failure. Im hoping this one is what the trailer makes it out to be, namely the former. He's one of the few people who can have 'ARE YOU CRAZY?!' yelled at them, and just grin a little while holding his fingers apart slightly and make me laugh honestly. 'Just a wee bit', indeed.

Its being directed by Jon Turteltaub, and will also feature Monica Bellucci, Toby Kebbell and Jay Baruchel as the apprentice. Tureltaub and Cage worked together on the National Treasure movies, so all in all Im expecting a cheesy fun ride from this one.

Ive not had the luxury of seeing Zombieland yet; this makes me sad, since from all the reviews on both the web and in the physical world its a very funny movie; Ive seen enough clips and such to know Id laugh myself into a coma. So, when Chud posted that the writers of the movie, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, might be hired by Fox to write it, well, I was intrigued.

The two writers, near as I can tell, are a perfect fit to write for Deadpool. Certainly a bit better, in my not-so-unbiased opinion, than Benioff and Woods; how they managed to horribly butcher Deadpool(not going into the rest of Wolverine: Origins) is something I dont care to contemplate for fear of losing my tenuous, tenuous grip on reality.

Of course, Ryan Reynolds being attached to this is still the biggest source of hope; having watched interviews, its obvious that he has a real deep love for the character. Hell, he might as well be Deadpool's RL avatar(and given his ability to break the fourth wall, who are we to say he ISNT?); he's mentioned in the past that there will be fourth-wall breaking in the film. Now, this could be a distracting, irritating thing if not done properly, but if it IS then it'd certainly be a way to distinguish the film and character from all the other comic book movies hitting the silver screen.

After all, its not like Superman stops in the middle of combat, looks at the audience and asks if anyone's bored yet. Deadpool would.

It also seems that Mr.Reynolds has a dream director in mind for the movie; Quentin Tarantino. The man has had 'reservations' in the past about adapting other people's work, and while I love his movies, I think thats all for the best in this case. Deadpool's a little too wacky for Tarantino's style, I think.

Zombieland writers take on DEADPOOOOOOL!

Its certainly the time for Vampires to...well, non-shiny-shine, I suppose...as yet another movie about them is being worked on. This one however has my attention; Summit studios is working on an action-oriented Dracula remake, entitled Vlad, with a script by actor Charlie Hunnam, who appeared in Undeclared and Children of Men, as well as Sons of Anarchy.  Brad Pitt is producing via Plan B along with Dede Gardner, and music video director Anthony Mandler is in negotiations to direct.

Mandler produced a reel to show to Summit, emphasising a dark, moody almost 300-ish style to it, which impressed the company. I loved 300, and while the style is definitely not for everything, anyone who knows Vlad Tepes' story I feel would have to agree it'd be the perfect fit for it. As of yet, there's no word on any casting decisions; I have to wonder who'd be able to do the young, diginified, utterly bloodthirsty act well.

Half the reason this film intrigues me is simply due to the source material; everyone and their mother has done the story of Dracula once he became the Prince of Darkness. The story's been told, retold, mutated, lampooned and even WTF'd(just do a search for Vampire Abe Lincoln sometime), but comparitively few actually deal with his rise to unholy power. Offhand, I cant think of any myself. If done well, it could spark a new era of Dracula movies dealing with the less-traveled aspects of his life, fictional or not.

The other half of the reason the film intrigues me? No sparkles.

Vlad: Not just another vampire flick

There's a clip, presumably of the uncleaned 45mm original copy, on youtube. Ive watched it; Im honestly, truly glad they didnt use it. Just the opening NARRATION is such crap, Im not sure Trek would be anything resembling the cultural icon (your mileage may vary on how good or bad that is) it is today. Behold, the original original opening monologue:

"Enterprise Log, Captain James Kirk commanding. We are leaving that vast cloud of stars and planets which we call our galaxy. Behind us, Earth, Mars, Venus, even our Sun are specks of dust. ... The question, what is out there in the black void beyond? Until now our mission has been that of space law regulation, contact with Earth colonies and investigation of alien life. ... But now, a new task. A probe out into where no man has gone before."

It dosen't flow. It has no energy, to rythym so to speak; and someone apparently forgot that 'a probe out into' should not be words uttered by anyone about anything except a proctologist in the privacy of his practice. But, its still an interesting piece of Trek history to be able to witness, and fans can all thank a German (Germany is a haven for Trek fandom; this fan was not aware of that) collector for getting in touch with CBS and Paramount, allowing us to see that we might all have ended up fans of a show fond of probing outward.

Lost pilot ep of Star Trek discovered; Good thing it was changed.

Well, at least the helmet portion. The rest of it is, unfortunately, blacked out due no doubt to copyright. But, there are several things one can glean from the image:

A. It does indeed look more heavily armored than Mr.Stark's armor. The torso area is bulkier, the shoulders are larger, and even the legs look a tad thicker, at least to my Esoteric Chode(tm) eyes.

B. Its more heavily armed. The iconic BFG on its shoulder, what appears to be a large underslung gun on the left arm, projections on the right arm that are either weaponry of some sort or protection of some kind.

C. The guy who sculpted the face of this figurine needs to take another crack at it. Seriously, it looks less like surprise and more like 'Whoops, constipation'.

We've seen Black Widow (mmmm...), we've seen Whiplash, and now War Machine. More and more Im liking Iron Man 2, and I haven't even seen it yet. I cannot wait until May 7th of next year.

Iron Man 2: War Machine glimpse

There were a couple of small news bits today, but with the slowdown for the American holiday, nothing was worth posting an entire article for.  First off, FlashForward took a steep ratings dive and ABC has pulled production for a week or two.  Supposedly this is just to give the writers a chance to catch up, but don't be surprised if the show suddenly changes again.

Second, Smallville's producers are gambling on one more season to wrap up plot threads and also perhaps evolve Clark into the hero he's destined to be.  The two-hour JSA extravaganza is supposedly their best work yet and they're very proud of it.  There's a full interview here.

Morena Baccarin is always great, and she looked wonderful at the AMA's - unfortunately there are only four pics so far, but they're delicious and she looks incredible.

If there's one thing I love in this world it's brunettes with expressive eyes, and despite the fact Leighton Meester recently went blonde (doesn't suit her at ALL), I love this shoot.
