Steampunk-ish Riese webseries nets several SG actors

Filmed in Vancouver and premiering online November 2, 'Riese' is a new fantasy series with a good many steampunk elements, and features a cast seemingly culled from the ranks of Stargate veterans.
The film's titular star is being played by Christine Chatelain; those of you who are Sanctuary fans will recognize her as Clara from the recent season premiere 2-parter. She is joined by Ben Cotton (Stargate Atlantis’s “Dr. Kavanagh”), Sharon Taylor (“Amelia Banks”), Ryan Robbins (“Ladon Radim”), and Patrick Gilmore (Stargate Universe’s “Dale Volker”).

Now, Phil wasn't too overly excited about this, but I'm not one to let other people's opinions of a series or movie influence my own (After all, I still think Dragonball Z is a wonderful series, just unnecessarily long), so I gave the trailer a shot. The premise is interesting: a decimated landscape populated by weird and scary things, being slowly taken over by a power-hungry tyrant, Empress Amara, who herself is being yanked like a puppet by a mysterious religious order known as the Sect. This is not a happy place, more of a crapsack world, until a wandering heroine with a wolf named Fenrir enters the scene. She's wanted by the Sect for being a heretic, and must watch her back while helping others so that a dagger dosen't end up in it. The description states that "As she flees, she’ll piece together her past and her destiny, in a conflict that will hold the fate of this world in the balance – and the once peaceful kingdom of Eleysia will be the battlefield." I'm a sucker for these sort of things, heroes with a destiny and the overthrowing of a tyrannical order.

As for the style of it, it honestly reminds me in some ways of Deadlands, an RPG a friend of mine has gone into lengthy detail about, though lacking the heavy magitek. Production-wise, it IS a web-series, it will not be able to match up to the standards of a well-funded TV or movie production, and it dosen't have to. The concept is enough to bring me in, and if the writing\acting prove solid I can easily forgive slightly lower production values. Ill be downloading this come November 2.
