Bryan Singer in talks to re-take the X-Men Franchise

Wow, good news on a lot of fronts lately. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bryan Singer told them that he is "in talks with Fox" about possibly returning to helm the fourth movie in the X-men franchise.

Most will consider this a welcome change after X-3 was an abysmal failure of a movie and X-Men Origins Wolverine was reviled for what it did to Deadpool.  I personally believe that X-3 was screwed up by not having David Hayter writing it, not director Brett Rattner. Hayter he did work on Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris's screenplay for  X-2 and wrote X-Men whole cloth, though Singer did have a Story credit on both, so there's no telling how much was Hayter and how much was Singer.  But I stand by my theory that a good Hollywood movie starts with good writing, not good Directing, and I think the producers need to figure that out.

Singer also stated that he loves the X-Men franchise for being able to tell real stories about life:

"The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is -- the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition," Singer said.

That was really felt back in the first two X films, less so in X-3.  So let's hope that isn't all just smoke, and Lauren Schuler-Donner is talking to him big-time.  She said First Class might have been put on hold a bit to do X-4, which is still not a decision I agree with since we've spent time rebooting Marvel via Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and the like - however, they're obviously not rebooting Spidey, so if we are going that route, Bryan Singer is definitely the guy to get back.

The only downside is if they do X-4 it has to still have the baggage of X-3. X-3 had some good in Storm/Beast it but not enough to want to watch the film again.

@dread - X-3 sucked. I think X-4 will probably just IGNORE X-3 minus Rogue (who I imagine will just vanish.)
