David Goyer in talks to write Ghost Rider!!

It's all over the web today (and why shouldn't it be) that Ghost Rider 2 may actually be getting made, even though the first one wasn't terribly good by anybody's definition other than mine. I like the occasional bout of four-color comic book heroism, even though Ghost Rider maybe wasn't the place to do it, I liked the simple narrative flow and the sense of history the film gave the Rider.
But my objections aside, the studio is looking to go a bit more serious with the next one, and is presently in talks with David Goyer (The Dark Knight, Blade: The Series, FlashForward) to create the story and supervise the writers for Ghost Rider 2.
I very much hope he does sign on, because while I enjoyed Ghost Rider for the cheese that it was, it could use a bit more professional, and realistic feeling for the sequel. I haven't read the comics very much (mainly because lately they've made Johnny into a complete moron without any redeeming qualities), but I think this story has a hell of a lot of potential to reach a little farther than the last one did.
You can read the full release here on Variety's blog.
