Bettany’s Priest gets even more cast!
As if the existing cast (Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Stephen Moyer and Lily Collins) weren't enough, Priest just announced three more additions to the cast, all veteran actors: Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif, and Madchen Amick. Christopher Plummer is one of my favorite character actors, especially in Star Trek VI, as is Brad Dourif, a veteran of X-Files and Star Trek Voyager. This cast is just amazing and I can't wait to see them in action.
Sony and Screen Gems say the following about the film:
Priest is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany is Priest, a legendary warrior priest during the last Vampire War, who now lives in obscurity among the other human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities controlled by the Church. But when his 18-year-old niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires in the desolate wastelands outside, Priest breaks his sacred vows and ventures out to find her and seek vengeance upon those responsible, especially their brutal leader (Karl Urban). Priest is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend, Hicks (Cam Gigandet), a local outpost sheriff, and Priestess (Maggie Q), a member of his former legion of vampire-killers who has otherworldly fighting skills.
From what I've been able to research, this is nothing like the comic concept, but still sounds fun. It's been a little while since Karl Urban was a villain, and I love a properly done scary violent Vampire story. Plus, I love stories with a sense of history - that's one of the reasons I liked Ghost Rider even though everyone else hated it, it gave the story of the Rider a sense of history.
Let's hope this one turns out great!
