Director says Jennifer’s Body works on several levels

Once again over at SciFiWire, Jennifer's Body director Karyn Kusama talks about how many different levels the film works on.

First and foremost, she says it's not a gorefest! That's fine with me - ever since Saw came out, movie-going audiences seem obsessed with turning horror into the most disgusting repugnant dismemberment and torture-fest imaginable, so you only have few movies that really come through as scary. (More on that one later...) Secondly, she says that the film isn't just about a demon, it's about female sexuality. She says she understands the subtle irony of having Megan Fox play this character - she being an Alpha of sorts amongst actresses (for now).

She also stated that she likes Asia Argento's father, the famous Italian director Dario Argento's sense of composition and lighting, and wanted to bring a real sense of feminine appreciation to the film. In addition to just the feminine form, she also plays up both the dysfunction and love of so-called "BFF's", how some of them can turn co-dependent in the worst way, and others can really elevate one another.

I've liked everything I've heard about this movie - the more I hear, the more I like. They clearly put a lot of thought into it, and the only horror movies I dig are the ones where they're a more psychological terror as opposed to a slasher film - as some of you may have guessed from my Silent Hill article. I'm going to see this this weekend if I can get the cash together, and give you guys a review next week, then you guys can let us know what you thought.
