Bryan Singer remaking EXCALIBUR!

I knew something like this was coming.

At the end of July, news hit the net that Warren Ellis was rumored to be writing a remake script for Excalibur, a John Boorman film.  Although this new news might not have anything to do with it, Warner Bros. is apparently close to a deal with Bryan Singer to remake my all-time favorite (possibly only) Arthurian Legend film.

"Warner Bros. has closed a rights deal to remake the 1981 'Excalibur,' with Bryan Singer producing and developing the picture as a potential directing vehicle," says Variety.  "Singer hasn't set a writer yet."

I'm guessing Ellis' story is apart of this project.  It should also be noted that Singer is also attached to make a big screen version of Battlestar Galactica.

On both films, Excalibur and Galactica, all I have to say is - I just don't get it.  BSG is pretty obvious why Singer should touch it or any other filmmaker should touch it - it's too soon.  This article is about Excalibur, however.

As much as I like Singer and his films, he doesn't fit with Excalibur AT ALL.  This is a project he should be involved with and I'm not saying that just because I don't think a remake is needed.  I just honestly don't see it working with Singer directing... producing with a director that does fit for what I think this film needs, is a maybe with me.

I just don't understand why he won't go make Logan's Run like he's planned on doing for the past few years.  He's perfect for that film and everybody knows it, or at least I think they do.  Let's see how far this goes before it falls apart like many of Singer's past films have.

Honestly I have a similar take on this as you Phil. It is really hard to touch Excalibur it perfectly feels like you enter that period and that time with that film. It is an excellent film. It will be hard to remake it and people even like it alright. I think Singer might be able to do it, but it would have to be an epic! I mean honestly I would love to see someone like ron howard or ridley scott or something. But you never know…..

    Ridley Scott would be amazing.
