Sean Connery classic Outland to be remade

Most of the science fiction from the late 70s and early 80s were some of the best science fiction ever - even better than some of the SF movies today.  This film, Outland, is among those as a total classic and is also another great Sean Connery flick.

You can see the trailer to the 1981 film above - Outland is one of those films that is a template for space films, giving the feeling of being cold and alone.  Among other things that I love about this film, it's all Sean Connery.  Outland can probably be compared to Taken starring Liam Neeson, meaning if it wasn't for the lead actor, the film probably wouldn't have been enjoyable.

If your a fan of scifi, Outland is definitely a must and a highly recommended film from me to you.

"Warner Bros. and Hollywood Gang Prods. have set 'Shoot 'Em Up' helmer Michael Davis to direct 'Outland'," says Variety.  "Chad St. John, who scripted WB drama 'The Days Before,' will pen the redo."

I don't know who Chad St. John is - that doesn't give me any hope for a remake that will do justice to the original, but what remakes do these days?

"We're staying true to the thematic heart of 'Outland' while expanding the space frontier concept," Davis said.

I've actually become numb recently to remake news.  There's so much of it being released week after week, what the hell, why even bother getting upset.  The only thing that happens when these films come out is fans laugh at the end result and most of the pictures bomb at the box office.  Although I love the original Outland, I honestly don't believe there is an audience out there  for this film, but that's if they stay true to the original.  Mind you, Outland isn't a big action film so I'm going to assume WB is going to make it commercial, they plan to miss the point of Outland.

Any thoughts?

there are to many remakes. sometimes I think
that there are no more original ideas in Hollywood,
and all they care about is special effects.

“who needs characters and plot? we got CGI!!!” and that describes
    80% of films nowadays.

its a shame realy, because if the movies today had plot+effects, they would be close to perfect, like the alien movies or terminator movies
but instead of that we get crap like transformers 2.

    rant over.

Hey. Finally a filmmaker with an idea. But an old one it is. Remake again. Crap!
