Natalie Portman as Jane Foster in Marvel’s Thor

This news is a couple of days old and I haven't spoken about it yet - I've been lazy.

The last couple of months, rumors and confirmations about who will be playing what part in the upcoming Thor has been all over the net. Confirmed is Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as the villain Loki, rumored still is Brian Blessed as Odin, and Jessica Biel as an unknown character. Back in March, Nikki Finke reported rumors that Natalie Portman was in talks to star opposite Hemsworth but for an unknown role. The speculation was she was either going to play Amora the Enchantress, Sif, or Jane Foster. Marvel, now confirms Portman's role.

"Academy Award nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie Thor," says Marvel.com. "In the early Thor comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation."

The character Foster was the love interest of Thor's alter human ego Donald Blake, and now that Foster is a character in this film, we can assume that the alter ego does make an appearance in the upcoming release. There was talk, although I can't provide proof, that the character of Donald Blake was more than likely not going to play a part in this film, with some assuming the character will show up during the end of the movie.

I'm thrilled about this news. I love Natalie Portman - besides being super hot, she's a fantastic actress. I hope she'll be able to shine in this genre type film unlike what she was forced to do in the Star Wars prequels. Sure, I loved her in those films but I have no doubt things were restricting given the fact that George Lucas is a terrible director.
