Matt Reeves talks about Let Me In, the remake of Let The Right One In
The Swedish horror film, Let the Right One InLeandersson starring Lina and Kåre Hedebrant, directed by Tomas Alfredson was one one of my top 3 films of 2008. I love this movie! This movie is perfection and it shows why foreign films are out-classing American films. It's so good, it's a real shame that the general mainstream audience doesn't know about it. They will soon however, because an American remake is on the way from Cloverfield director Matt Reeves.
Let the Right One In, now called Let Me In, had Reeves "hooked". "I was just hooked," the director tells the LA Times. "I was so taken with the story I had a very personal reaction. It reminded me a lot of my child hood, with the metaphor that the hard times of your pre-adolescent, early adolescent moment, that painful experience is a horror."
Currently, Reeves has finished his second draft of the film which apparently is "set in Reagan-era Colorado, and is scouting locations, looking to maintain the original story's chilly, snow-swept environs."
The Swedish film has two fantastic young actors portraying their roles but will Reeves look for older actors for mainstream audiences? The article says no in "which Reeves vows [he will not] aged-up to make the film more of a smoldering 'Twilight'-style romance."
My main concern is the dumbing down of the story. Is Reeves and the studio willing to take the story to the limits of American filmmaking? Who the hell knows. For the most part, I don't believe a remake is needed - the original should just be marketed and re-released because it deserves it. In the end, however, I'll probably see Reeves' final product for simple comparison to the original.
Who cares anyhow - I'm not betting on this new film being any good.

Typically the execs and producers will always screw things up. They think they’re creating masterpieces.
Look what happened to Highlander the Source. They screwed that one over one too many times.
I don’t know why they heck they want to make remakes.
It’s a trend, well I am sorry to say, that it’s a hogwash. 100% percent pure hogwash, man I haven’t seen remakes this cluttered and disordered than a local dump.
Oh yeah they will dumb down the stories as they normally do.
In basic terms most of the execs and producers either are GAY, or that they are too friggin narcissistic.
It’s gripping or I was taken, man that sound old. I feel like I want to move somewhere isolated, like Morocco or some other god forsaken place where there’s no internet connection and live without a care in the world.
Again I foresee three things that they would do to that original flick, one they would dumb it down, two they would screw up the storyline, three they would make it senseless and inane.
Of which they would want romance style twilighty vibe going on.
Me personally I hope to God that they won’t release the mockery of what they call the remakes to general public
Too fooking soon!
