Oscars expands to Ten Best Picture Nominations
This is probably one of the more interesting industry news items to come out in a while. Most of us you watch the Oscars yearly know that the most recent awards show was mixed up with new content, trying to make the biggest film recognition ceremony seem more fresh. In my opinion, things this year worked out for the better because I loved this years Oscars - I was very entertained, granted I still had issues with several things. One of those issues has now been addressed.
I've always felt, especially this year, that some movies deserved a Best Picture nod. This past year, The Wrestler, The Dark Knight and Wall-E were films that should have been nominated - in fact, those films were actually better than some of the movies nominated! Unfortunately, only five nominees can be named.
Not anymore!
According to Variety, "The board's decision to double the category to 10 nominees ' may make it more interesting and less cloistered,' said Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences prexy Sid Ganis at a press conference Wednesday morning."
That's right folks, we'll now see ten nominees at the Oscars making things more interesting. So far this year, there is no clear nominee except for Pixar's UP, but that's based on the films I've seen so far. The thing I'm curious about, will a Pixar film - an animated film, finally be nominated for Best Picture which should have happened the last few years but hasn't? We'll find out in many more months but this should prove entertaining.

This might have been mentioned before but I think it would be better if the show was all red carpet with the awards as a scroll underneath.
I think all eyes will be on the Oscar’s this year to see what kind of movies make it into the new expanded set. This has more info on the reasoning behind the decision : http://www.newsy.com/videos/oscars_and_then_there_were_ten But i think everyone has uttered the phrase ” Such and such movie should have been nominated” so I think this is a good change.
