Harold Ramis talks Ghostbusters 3 casting rumors and status

I can't tell you how excited I am to hear official word that Ghostbusters 3 has been greenlit, however, until then, a script is still being written.

Harold Ramis, while talking to Ain't It Cool News, updated on the current status of the sequel starting with a quick backstory.

"We wrote a story together," speaking of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. "We hammered out the story together. I've been their supervisor. Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd consult. The studio has approved the story, and they're writing the script in their hiatus from 'The Office'."

During the past few weeks, co-star Dan Aykroyd has been talking about a new younger generation of Ghostbusters hinting that he'd like to get Alyssa Milano (who worked on the new video game with them) and Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse) to star along side them, among other new cast members. Although I think that is a great idea, Ramis says that there is no casting going on yet.

"No, none of that's real," he said. "There will be young ghostbuster, but no specific casting is real, and no director is committed."

As for the original cast, Ramis says, "everyone said they'd be in it."

"The studio does not want to commit to us at this point. It's very... When everyone says 'yes' that will trigger a very expensive deal for the powers that be."

What he means by that, the cast said verbally they'd do it but until a script is greenlit they'll be no deals made.
