FOX wants Ridley Scott for Alien, not Carl Erik Rinsch

The past couple of weeks have been filled with news concerning remakes and prequels with the Alien franchise as one of them.  The good news, Ridley Scott is once again attached to the project which is now being called a prequel to the original 1979 film he directed.  The not so good news but also not bad news is that Scott isn't going to direct it.  Apparently, a commercial director who's part of the Scott production company, Carl Erik Rinsch, has been given the thumbs up from both Ridley and Tony Scott.  FOX on the other hand aren't exactly in agreement with the Scott's, however.

"Sources at FOX tell EW the studio is not 'interested in green lighting the project unless Scott directs himself," a quote from The Playlist.  "According to Entertainment weekly - in a piece not online yet (presumably on Hollywood Insider, later today?) - the Scott's may have given final approval of Rinsch, but 20th Century Fox has some conflicting ideas and they don't want to greelit a seventh, err fifth film ('AVP' apparently lives in fairy land only), without Ridley at the helm."

Most people hate FOX studios - I'm pretty much one of them.  The cancellation of Terminator: TSCC pushed me over the edge, however, I can't say I blame FOX for saying that they won't greenlight a new Alien film without Ridley Scott directing it.  Let's face it - if FOX has any brains left they, by now, should have realized that their precious Alien vs Predator series is a total critical and financial failure - the reasons for that, mainly, are from the creative outlook by the creative teams behind both films.  So yea, I'm in agreement with FOX on this - Scott directs or no movie!

Yet, I will say that FOX's micro managing and ability to creatively choke people have been their undoing when it comes to movie making.  There are those who are confident in Carl Erik Rinsch because his past work have a stunning visual caliber - work that could very well lead him to become a great film director one day.

Although I'd rather have Scott directing this film, even though I think it is unlikely, I'd also like to see studio's taking chances with new fresh directors with big ideas because harking back to the filmmaking legends is going to literally get old.

What do you think?  With or without Scott?
