The Hobbit makes some changes!

There's no doubt that almost all of us are looking forward to Peter Jackson's and Guillermo Del Toro's The Hobbit.  We all love Lord of the Rings and we're all excited to return to that world.

During the past several months we've heard from both Jackson and Del Toro that two films were planned - the first telling the story of The Hobbit with the second film telling a story bridging both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, a concept that excited a lot of fans and movie goers.  That, however, doesn't seem to be the case anymore because The Hobbit may actually take two films to tell.

"We've decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Do Guldur," says Del Toro.

Peter Jackson chims in and says, "We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie.  The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the trilogy."

Wait, did he just say "trilogy"!?

Apparently, there is a rumor that instead of two films, the Lord of the Rings prequel may be expanded to three films forming a trilogy.  That's good news considering everyone was hoping to see Aragorn again.  If The Hobbit was the only story they were going to tell, that would rule Aragorn out, but if they have a third film to play with we might actually get to see him and some of the others, hopefully, again.

Right now, probably, I wouldn't doubt they're just going to wait and see how much money The Hobbit brings in for them.  They'll probably have things ready for a third film in the case that the first film makes a lot of cash and I'm willing to bet it will.  As a fan of these films, I'm just honestly really excited to see these two working together.  Let's see how things turn out in the next several weeks or months.

Umm, dude. Don’t freak out and get all excited. :-) I don’t think Jackson is referring to a NEW trilogy. I think he was just saying that they are going to make “The Hobbit” tonally consistant with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
