The SciFi Channel casts their leading men for RiverWorld and The Phantom!

Hell yeah, Helo is going to Riverworld!

"Battlestar Galactica veteran Tahmoh Penikett and 'Smallville' supergirl Laura Vandervoort will star in 'Riverworld,' and Ryan Carnes ('Desperate Housewives') has been cast as The Phantom," says James Hibberd from The Hollywood Reporter.

First, I'm thrilled Penikett is getting a lot of work after Battlestar Galactica.  I love his character Paul Ballard in Dollhouse, a show that might not get a second season, although I hope it does.  According to Hibberd, "In 'Riverworld,' he will play war correspondent Matt Ellman, who is killed along with his fiancee (Vandervoort) but awakens in a mysterious world populated by everyone who has lived on Earth."

I don't know about everyone else, but I for one was a fan of the TV movie that aired a couple of years ago.  Don't be confused, however, this has nothing to do with that movie.  This is a mini-series and basically a reboot of that story.  It also has potential to become a series if the mini-series works out.

Also, Alan Cumming is set to guest star as the Caretaker.

I don't really know of Ryan Carnes because I don't watch Desperate Housewives but I'm still looking forward to seeing The Phantom.  I liked the Billy Zane movie - it was stupid fun.

"In 'Phantom' Carnes will play the well-known comic book hero, and Isabella Rossellini will guest star as teh villainous Lithia, who is overseeing a mind-control experiment," Hibberd says.

Both Riverworld and The Phantom will air as four-hour movies on the SciFi Channel.  Also, both mini-series start filming on Monday.  Awesome!
