A Nightmare on Elm Street has its Krueger!

The weekend started with pretty big news for genre and horror films, as well as fans - Platinum Dunes has hired their new Freddy Krueger.

"Jackie Earle Haley is going to Elm Street, signing to star as iconic killer Freddy Krueger in New Line and Platinum Dunes relaunch of A Nightmare on Elm Street," confirms Variety.

Haley made a big hit for comic book fans recently with Watchmen.  Although Watchmen was not a hit in box office numbers, Haley was praised for his performance as Rorschach.  You could see him next in is Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

It's hard to say how this will work out and we all know that some people are going to love this and some people are going to hate this casting news.  There's still a lot of Elm Street purists out there but it's not like that matters - the movie is still getting made.

I honestly don't care - I'm not a horror fan to begin with and I've only been, lets say, re-introduced to the Elm Street franchise recently.  Granted, the only Elm Street movies I care about at all are the ones that had the Nancy character in it - as for the rest, whatever.

All that said, everything I've heard about the story and characters in the remake doesn't interest me enough to want to see this.  Even so, A Nightmare on Elm Street is going to make some good money opening weekend but I'm willing to bet its second and third weekend will see large drops.

The real question here is going to be Nancy - will she be smokin’ hot in panties? ;)
