The 2009 Academy Awards event thoughts

The 81st Academy Awards
In recent years the Oscars were beginning to get brutally boring which caused the ratings for the event to drop dramatically. So this year, things were going to be different, at least according to those in charge of the Oscars. The goal was to make the awards ceremony entertaining again, as well as fun and respectful. During the event we saw a whole bunch of new things, and we saw some thing disappear. The opinions on the show may vary but when it comes to my quick thoughts - fanfrakkintastic!
This show was a major improvement from years past, without a doubt, and I hope they'll continue with this design and build on what worked and what didn't. Below, like my reviews, are my likes and dislike.

- It's amazing that an actual movie personality hosted instead of a lame TV comedian like Ellen DeGeneres who I think sucks. Jackman brought class, charm, and charisma. He was fantastic in his opening performance and I think stands up to the Billy Crystal performances, but almost. Overall, Jackman kicked ass and I'd like to see him do it again, but with a bigger budget so they can do something more spectacular.
- During the opening performance Jackman included Anne Hathaway into his performance and it was absolutely amazing! It made me love Hathaway more than I already do.
- The presentation of past winners during the major actor and actresses awards is a brilliant idea. It made the nominees feel like they already won and you could see that with the tears offered by stars like Hathaway, Viola Davis, and Amy Adams. Brilliant
- Finally, they got rid of the long boring live performances of crappy music during the event and made it very short. Actually, this year the music wasn't garbage but the live performance was about 5 minute long and it worked well. It was also very entertaining.
- I love the fact that Michael Giacchino did the score. I recognized some of his work like Cloverfield... and wait, Star Trek? Oh shit... awesome. He also brought back some Hollywood classic in his music which I think is important in an even like this.
- I was thrilled to see that the technical awards were moved through very fast making the pace of the event fast.
- Less montages!! The montages that we did see were actually about the movies for the year!
- The Ben Stiller bit, spoofing Jacquin Phoenix was brilliant
- The in Memoriam of course was great
- Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, and Kate Winslet all looked in credible and are my best dressed for this event.
- Last, I love the set design and the Crystal curtain was gorgeous
Dislikes:
- It might be just me but I thought the musical number with Beyonce was awful and the worst part about the show. Also, the High School musical kids... I'm not going to knock them because they're at the Oscars and I'm not, but they didn't belong on the stage. Hopefully they'll improve this segment of the show. AND NO MORE BEYONCE!! I can't stand her!
- At the end of the Oscars, the credits rolled footage from 2009 movies and although it's nice seeing footage, the display was lame. They should have ran them as commercials.
- Lastly, I'd like to see the Oscars more classic Hollywood but I suppose Classic can be argued.
So as you can see, I loved this years Oscars and I think they can be improved upon next year.
Now, if you'd like to hear the complete opposite of what I wrote, you can read the comments of NFD reader David in the comment section of THIS post.
What did you think of the Academy Awards?
