Who would I like to see in the next Batman film?
In this article I choose six villains from the Batman franchise that I'd like to see in some measure in the next film. Along with my thoughts, I want to hear what you have to say and who you'd like to see in the next film.

This is a subject that has been beaten to death for months ever since the premiere of The Dark Knight - Who will be the villain or villains in Batman 3? The rumors have been circulating the Internet, as you are well aware, on which actors would be portraying particular villains in the next film and most of them have been absolutely ridiculous, for example; Eddie Murphy as Riddler and Cher as Catwoman. A majority of people don't believe those rumors although there is an unfortunate few that do believe them and to those people - I don't know what to tell you except start reading film sites that tell you legit information. I can suggest some if you'd like.
During the past few weeks it has been well known that Christopher Nolan, the director of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, has begun looking for a story worth telling for a potential sequel to TDK but has yet to find one. He's said on a few occasions that he's looking at potential themes and villains but hasn't found anything he's interested in yet.
Each of us have our opinions on what villain(s) should be in the next film and each of us have our opinions on who should play them. That's what this post is about. Like you I have my own opinion on what characters I'd like to see and what characters could potentially work in Nolan's films which are grounded in reality, for the most part. That means don't expect any characters that have been mutated into giant lizards or physically changed into an iceman. The one thing that makes these films so great is that they are grounded in reality as if they could happen in a city near you but there is obviously better people than myself that could make some of the more outrageous characters work in the Nolanverse.
With a little research and thought here is who could possibly be used in the next Batman film. On the other hand, Nolan could do something completely different - this is all just a brief opinion.
The source for everything comes from DC.Wikia.com.

Harley Quinn
To me this character is the perfect follow up to The Joker. She's just as psychotic as the Joker and now that he's is in Arkham, so we assume, Harley can come to Gotham looking to free her "puddin" but first she has to get through The Dark Knight himself.
She's described as a student that studied Psychiatry as well as gymnastics. Quinn, then Dr. Harleen Quinzel, met with Joker because she believed she understood him.
Harley isn't a major character or villain in the Batman world and isn't on the check list of major villains that Nolan once said he wanted to avoid using, which makes perfect sense. The concern of using this character, however, is the fact that we just had the Joker in the last film and these two characters are obviously closely related. Do we want more of the same or do we want to go in a different direction with a whole different kind of villain that gives us a different theme? Who knows how Nolan would mold this character and how he'd create her background relationship with Joker but out of all characters, part of me puts Harley on the top of my list for villains I want to see, however, another part of me wants to see a more "bigger" named villain.
If there is anyone I think can pull of a fantastic Harley Quinn, it's Hudson Leick. You might remember her from Xena where she played a character named Callisto. For those of us who've seen it, you know that Hudson can easily pull of deranged and that's how Harley needs to be. Go watch a few episodes of Xena with Leick and you'll see that she'd make a perfect Quinn.

Talia al Ghul
Talia is another character that would make sense as a follow up even if she would was a minor role. As you know Batman was the cause of her Ra's al Ghul's death, her father, and Ra's of course knew Batman's true identity.
She's described as having an "excellent head for business" which is something that can be used as sort of a possible rivalry to Wayne Enterprises. She also has the combat skills of her father which she could use to try and achieve vengeance against Batman. Talia, however, can be used in several different ways and doesn't have to be a major Bat baddie. She could take the place as the "day time" villain against Bruce Wayne while Batman takes on a bigger foe at night.
When I think about Talia, I really don't think anyone would buy her as a villain. Film goers, including myself, would rather see some more eccentric villains but I wouldn't be against Talia being a minor character or a major villain's employer. Maybe she could hire a character like Deadshot to assassinate the caped crusader as a side plot.

Sorry, I couldn't find a video on the character.

Deadshot
The mob put their trust in a mad man like the Joker and it got them no where and it probably made things worse for them, but what if they put their money towards a bad ass assassin. Also, like I said just above, Talia al Ghul could use an assassin to take revenge for her fathers death.
Deadshot is an assassin that never misses - he's described as having silenced wrist guns as well as a variety of other weapons which includes a targeting device on the right side of his face.
This character can easily be used in the grounded reality Chris Nolan created, but to me Deadshot just doesn't seem cinematic enough. Than again, neither did Scarecrow but Nolan made it work beautifully. Deadshot could also be used as sort of a cameo villain like Scarecrow was in The Dark Knight which would obviously save room for a larger villain like The Riddler.
I don't think he will work as a major villain but I'd love to see some sort of side plot or B story with this character.

The Riddler
The Riddler is a character many people are expecting and would like to see in the next film - I know I wouldn't be against it. He's one of the richest characters to use with an extensive background that Nolan could possibly source from although I'm sure he would change a million things as he did with the Joker. Yet, is Riddler too similiar to the Joker and does that risk repeating itself? Perhaps it was the Joker that made Edward Nygma into the Riddler just like he turned Harvey Dent into Two-Face but we can't blame every villains bad habits on the Joker.
Riddler is described as a child that grew up in a broken home where he had an abusive father that eventually drove him mad and sent him onto a life of crime. His abuse caused a compulsion that makes him always tell the truth. Riddler as a child was also obsessed with puzzles and riddles which he became a master at but you wouldn't know that would you. ... Even if the Riddler has a rich background to create an onscreen character, we as the audience don't really need to see it and thanks to Nolan's directing and story telling technique we usually meet the villain as they already are and that's totally fine with me.
So many names have been tossed out on the Internet as to who could play the Riddler, for example: Johnny Depp. I, honestly, don't agree withthat and I can't see why people are obsessed with Depp as Riddler. I've always rooted for Chrispin Glover as Riddler because, lets face it, Glover is a nut job as it is and I think he bears resemblance to what Riddler looks like. Hell... if you've seen that appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman (CLICK HERE to view) you'd probably agree. His nervousness and craziness is actually how I picture Riddler but I might be alone in that.

Catwoman
I think everyone wants Catwoman to appear in the next Batman movie. Since the Rachel Dawes character is dead, thank god, Bruce Wayne/Batman needs a new love interest and what better way to go than Selina Kyle. Catwoman is another character that has had several rumored actresses interested or looked at by Warner Bros., however, none of those rumors are true. NO, Cher is not Catwoman....
Selina is also another character, like Riddler, who has a major background to work off of. Having a mother who committed suicide and a father that drank himself to death led her to the Sprang Hall Juvenile Detention Center as an orphan but she left because she would rather try and survive on the streets of Gotham. She's described as having "sharp wits and an amazing natural skill as a gymnast", skills that were used while committing theft to survive. She studied martial arts and became an accomplished cat burglar. After seeing The Dark Knight in action, she decided to get her own costume.
Some of the rumors that have floated around have pointed fingers at Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale, and Rhona Mitra as playing Catwoman and although all of those rumors are not true, but if I had to choose one actress, it would be Rhona Mitra. I really can't answer why I want a European girl, English in this case, to play Catwoman - I guess it's just because I love hot women with accents but in Rhona's case, when I look at her, she seems so mysterious to me. That's a quality I'd like Catwoman to have. She's also in great shape and accustom to physical roles which would be a necessity against some one like Batman. If and when Chris Nolan announces the next Bat villain - if it's Catwoman, I'm going to support Rhona Mitra! She's also mentioned in an interview for Underworld that she'd love to play the character and she's a fan of PVC or tight ass leather. Beautiful...

Clayface
There is so many different versions of Clayface to look at but after reading several descriptions I found that I like the original Clayface - Basil Karlo.
"He is an actor who is driven mad when he hears of a remake of the classic horror film he had starred in, even though he is to be one of the advising staff. Donning the mask of the film's villain, 'Clayface', he embarks on a murder spree among the cast and crew of the remake."
I think this is a hysterical concept because it's parallel to today's world - all classic movies are getting remade by studios into shit films and it would be great to see a character driven over the edge by that. Using the films villain in a so called real world is pretty sick. Imagine if the original actor of Jason lost his mind over the Friday the 13th remake and took his revenge against the cast and crew with the Jason mask and a machete... It's insane.
If there is an actor who deserves a shot at this role, it's Mickey Rourke. He's got a screwed up face to begin with, plus he's a really good actor. I'd love to see him play a villain.

Conclusion
It's totally possible that none of these characters will be used in the next Batman movie. Chris Nolan himself said once that if he does choose to do another Batman film he wants to make it more like a low budget film. He said that The Dark Knight had an epic quality and he didn't want to repeat the same - he'd like to try and make something more personal. All of that is cool with me because what ever he does, I think all of us have confidence in Nolan. It's also nice to know he doesn't want to fall in the threequel trap and make something horrible like Spider-Man 3.
I looked at many characters in the Batman universe but after consideration, these six are the ones I'd choose from because many of the characters don't seem like they could transfer in the the Nolanverse, but than again, I'm not as smart as those guys who make these films. As for the rest of the characters, I just don't really find them all that interesting enough, for example; Bane. I don't see why people like him so much. Sure, there is Penguin, Mister Freeze, and Poison Ivy but we've see them all already in the earlier films and for the most part they were huge disappointments. I'd like to see someone different, someone we haven't seen yet.
You've now heard my opinion, what's yours? I'd like to hear what you have to say and who you'd like to see play the villain in the next movie. It could be someone new or someone we've already seen. Whatever the case, it will be your opinion.

Very nice ideas! You really put some effort in it! Let’s hope Nolan reads along…
I think a whole new villan not seen in the comics would be best.
Great article…I’m intrigued by Clayface. And your pick of Mickey Rourke is dead on, since he can play off all of that buzz from “The Wrestler” (but who knows by the time Batman 3 is made).
Actually, I think Talia could be interesting if they actually had her be a romantic interest for Bruce. If she’s got a head for business, she could be the next up-and-comer who gives WayneCorp a run for its money. That would also fit with the low-budget rendition of batman.
I could also see Talia being a good foil for Catwoman if you put both in there - nothing stops a thief like a corporate woman with an extreme sense of “Security”. And they could fight alot.
I’m trying to figure who I’d cast to play Talia. She’d have to be “Liam Neeson’s daughter”, since Ras Al Ghul was British this time around, not Japanese. And she’d have to look good in a suit while snogging Batman. Bale has a weird face, so hiring women that look good beside him is actually a bit harder. I think they hit on a good one in the first movie, the second movie, I don’t know if I bought her being interested in Bruce as much (which was fine since she loved Harvey).
Actually, I could see Erica Durance (http://www.askmen.com/women/galleries/actress/erica-durance/picture-1.html) playing a good Talia. Though if they want to go with a more established movie actress, obviously a Smallville alum is not going to work. Bale is working with Moon Bloodgood (http://attentialcine.blogosfere.it/images/moonbloodgood.jpg) on T4, and she could work for Talia, but Liam’s not asian - though I suppose it’s possible Liam got horizontal with an asian woman and that was the result.
And I gotta say, for Catwoman, I have to go with Megan Fox. Not just because she’s hot, that’s not it, but more because she LOOKS like a cat person. She has those eyes, that nose, that makes me think cat. If she could bring her acting game up to Bale’s level, I’d totally be there.
Oh and for Harley? Our dear lady from Xena hasn’t aged well, as was proven in “Fastlane”, and I wouldn’t cast her anymore. She’d have to be a believable offshoot of Ledger’s joker, so I think the girl was a good choice, but I’d want to cast someone a bit younger now. I can’t think of anybody with the crazy eyes off the top of my head though.
I dunno, I can’t think of any other Batman villians off the top of my head that I’d want to see. Ultimately the villian has to suit the mood of the piece that Nolan wants, and I don’t know what mood he’s going for.
Clayface out of the group you choose.. but if I could add, I’d go for ScarFace. nothing like a psycho puppet
Im in support of a few but Id also like to see another crack at the joker.
A few other characters that could use a real world makeover
Mr. Zsasz he was featured in a minor way in Batman 1
The Penguin. please undo the danny devito damage
The Mad Hatter .. a Cultist
Dr, Hugo Strange… Definite possibilities
Villains that would work in a Nolan batman movie:
Penguin: Realistic. A stout, gentlemen-like mob boss arms dealer who owns The Iceberg lounge where alot of crooked deals are happening. He also loves birds. take away the flying umbrellas & you got yourself a real threat. Bob Hoskins or Joe Pesci would play him well.
Catwoman: Realistic. a female cat burglar that wears goggles & cat ears, sounds plausible to me!
Riddler: Realistic. we could even have the riddler win at the end
Black Mask: Realistic
Villains that would Never, ever work in a Nolan Batman movie:
Clayface
Poison Ivy
ManBat
Killer Croc
Villains that just might work in a Nolan Batman flick if done properly & if tweeked majorly:
Mad Hatter: Jervis is highly psychotic, he would be a very dark character. take away the whole Alice in Wonderland nonsense. & mind control is not that far away from reality & his origin & look would have 2 b changed.
Mr Freeze: 2 b frozen in suspended animation is realistic, to have to wear a special suit so that you can survive in subzero temperatures is scientifically plausible. A freeze gun….unrealistic. Mr Freeze could work if done right.
Scarface: I dont expect to ever see Scarface in a Batman movie. the whole split personality thing would have to go, but you could have Arnold Wesker toying with his henchmen, pretending he has a split personality causing others to believe it thus fearing him; thats just crazy in itself. & once his chronies/henchmen leave, he throws the puppet on the ground & laughs his ass off.
Drop me a line & tell me what u think, do u agree with any of this?
Nice work! I don’t know if Mr. Freeze would work but Penguin - I’m kind of split on…
Anyhow, I agree Man Bat and Killer Croc would never work, and Poison Ivy I think is a stupid character.
As for who you think would work, I agree!
I honestly can’t say what Batman villain I’d like to see next. The Riddler and Catwoman are too much of a predictable choice, and too mainstream. But most of all, I don’t have much faith in Christopher Nolan’s of female casting choices. Katie Holmes? Maggie Gyllenhaal? Neither of these actresses can keep up with Christian Bale, and neither of them had chemistry as Rachael Dawes.
Let me be frank … Harley Quinn is never going to happen in a Nolan Batman film. Maybe if Joel Schumacher was directing it. And I don’t Harley is very crazy as she is goofy. She’s bubbly, not bright and not very interesting. That, and, without the Joker* she’s pointless, because she the side kick. Some characters only work in cartoons, and I have to say she’s one of them.
*Hypothetically speaking, if Ledger was alive to reprise his role (which I’m still against; villains should never return into a franchise) this version of the Joker just doesn’t work with Harley Quinn. (I could see her along side Batman Forever’s version of Poison Ivy). She needs to be with Mark Hamill’s and I don’t think anyone can capture Arleen Sorkin’s voice work for the character anyway.
Clayface is too much of a supernatural villain for Batman.
Wow…I’m beginning to realize I’m very picky LOL.
The last film set up the new one…
batman on the run thought as the bad guy…
So figure a bad guy that can play good to force the public on Batman.
The Frank Miller story will be great, an old Batman that is at the end of his rope. It will be low budget and personal.
Poison Ivy could be worked on. Joel and Uma really screwed up that eco loving psychopath. Manbat and Clayface would not work if you want something realistic same goes for Mr.Freeze, but take the far sides extreme “freaks” of the Batman Universe out of the equation… and you get only the reality possibly type of villains. I think if we do not see Robin in the 3rd.. we will hope to be introduced to him in the 4th (whether or not Nolan continues the franchise and we can not hold our breathe that a director will continue on a single track path) Think about it…. Would you stay in one kind of movie/theme/franchise or direct movies you want and make money? Anyway… my point with introducing Robin would be great to see the return of Joker with his own sidekick..enter Harley.
as for Crispin Glover… He can play a great Riddler but he can also play a great comic book look -a- like joker as well.
I’d love to see Helena Bonham Carter as Harley Quinn, if she slimmed down a bit, she could totally pull off the role. She has the beauty, and she has the eccentricity to pull off the role! Plus.. I’d love to see her in the leather
What about Hush? I think he’s perfect for a Nolan Batman movie.
I have to disagree and say that Johnny Depp would play a brilliant Riddler. He’s been typecasted as Jack Sparrow (great role, but still typecasted nonetheless) and I’ve seen other aspects of his acting that would be marvelous in Batman 3. He played a very derranged person in Secret Window, he was akward in Edward Scissorhands, and he had a tough guy attitude in Once Upon a Time In Mexico. I think combining all of these would berth the greatest Riddler ever.
Clayface? Really? Let’s stay away from any CGI character that would ruin the real-ness of Nolan’s Batman.
Poison Ivy doesn’t have any powers. She is just a scientist and ecologist and could be done realistically.
I think that they should use the riddler as he would be great at influencing the people of Gothem into thinking Batman is the bad guy and would be a great follow on from the dark knight
i think johnny depp or crispin glover would make a good riddler. but i’ll say that if they’re trying to take a personal route with batman, i’d have to with hush . him & batman grew up together. he ended up goin physco & killing both his parents. he’s not an over the top villian, just a guy in a mask wearing a trenchcoat, complete with two pistols. i can’t really think of an actor to play him, but it will have to be someone mysterious looking, that can pull off being deranged & insane.
i want crispin glover to be the joker in the third batman movie batman continues, with halle berry as catwoman, and with aaron eckhart as two face, and with sarah michelle gellar as harley quinn, with the whole costume… and with micheal ansara mr. freeze, and with thomas dekker as robin, and with reba mcentire as poison ivy, and with gary oldman as comissioner gordon, and with tails miles prower tailsko, please, she has to be in the movie , with tailia al ghul, and with paul williams as the penguin, and with the watchmen heroes, and with tom welling superman, and with the loveable rouge the bat, please she has to be in the movie,
