Photos of the Week: Saving Private Ryan & Band of Brothers

2008 is over and with the end of that year comes the end of Christmas month and Christmas photos from around the world.  This week we're back to posting photos from films and television.

The past week or so I've watched two films that take place during World War II - Valkyrie (read review here) and Defiance.  Each film is very different in concept but the fact remains they're both subjects that take place in WWII, so because of that, it got me thinking about some of the great WWII films and television shows.  The first two to come to mind is Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers - the HBO mini series.   Both are very powerful in emotion and both have a fantastic cast.  That being the case, here is a photo from each film below; also make sure to check out Scores & Soundtracks for the amazing John Williams score from Saving Private Ryan.

I suggest seeing both if you haven't but also beware that both can be very emotional... To be honest I usually try and aviod watching Saving Private Ryan because it's really hard to watch, even for someone who isn't a soldier and never seen war.  Band of Brothers is one of the best mini-series that has ever aired - if you haven't seen that yet then you really need to get off your ass and get it.
