Top 5 2008 television shows
Take note: The top 5 television shows are my personal favorites. I don't watch every TV show so if I don't mention one of your favorites I don't know what to tell you, except that I either don't watch it or I think it sucks. That said, post your list in the comments below because I'd really like to read them.
The end of 2007 and the start of 2008 was a crazy year for television because of the Writers Guild of America strike. The strike caused the premature end of many television seasons for our favorite shows and even today as I write this and you read it another potential strike still looms - The Screen Actors Guild who still hasn't been able to negotiate a new contract with the major studios. Even so, for the most part, a lot of our shows were still really good and entertaining. As for my favorites, lets take a look at my top 5.
5 - Stargate Atlantis

I've been watching Stargate for a really long time now; I guess when it hit the SciFi Channel, then I bought all of the DVD sets and caught up. In short, I love it and I was saddened when SG-1 ended but after 10 years, I understood why it had to go. What I don't understand is why Atlantis has to end to make room for a new series and we all know that's the case so don't bullshit me SciFi Channel.
This is the 5th season of Stargate Atlantis and I think it's the best season out of the entire series, both Atlantis and SG-1. Non stop has Atlantis been quality - with quality story telling, action and effects. The thing that I wish we saw more of was character development but when you have excellent quality in every other department, I can deal with it.
Atlantis has only two episodes left and I'm just as excited and sad to see them but we all know that an Atlantis movie is in the works so at least we can look forward to that.
Goodbye Atlantis...
4 - LOST

I'll admit right now that thought the third season of Lost was pretty awful; well awful might be a strong word but I lost interest in the series because of the third season. Thankfully my curiosity kept me watching.
So much happened in the fourth season that I can't even begin to explain what it was but I'll mention a couple of things starting with the island can move... I don't get it. The island disappeared right before our eyes and we all crapped our pants in confusion. What about Locke being dead, or is he? Look there is so many questions that need to be answered and can go all day with asking the questions but that's insane.
The ensemble cast and the story telling quality Lost has is remarkable, exciting and extremely intriguing. Who knows what season 5 holds in store for us but it is getting ready for its premiere in a couple of weeks so stay tuned.
Anyway, time to get ready for the new season on January 21st so here's a catch up video:
3 - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

I hate the pilot episode, I won't deny that; in fact I think it's some of the worst television I've ever seen, so why does this show end up as number 3? After the pilot aired, the next day the second episode premiered and it changed my opinion very quickly. I came to realize that TSCC was a character driven show with some excellent writing for those characters.
The second season is on its break right now so after a season and a half I can easily say that I love TSCC. This show has so many character moments and developments that I can't help but feel attached and excited every time the show starts on FOX. The back stories and personalities the writers and actors give their characters is amazing -- it's because of that, this show is loved by so many fans.
I don't know if a third season will be granted by FOX but if the network has any taste in programming, they'll let this series finish out its run even if that means another 3 years. This show is fantastic and almost every episode shadows the last in quality. Also if it wasn't for Brian Austin Green, my love for this show wouldn't be so great - his character alone makes this show worth watching.
2 - Jericho

Jericho might be over now but it's easily one of my favorite shows for 2008. The second season was the most intense TV I've ever seen and the concept of a 2nd American Civil War would have made for something really exciting. Lets face it, another Civil War is ridiculous and would never happen, thank god, but the concept if written well could be really sick TV.
Unfortunately, not enough people watched the series so it was cancelled.
The final episode in particular was an amazing piece of entertainment. Even now as I think about that episode I get fired up because it's so damn exciting. It makes you want to kick some ass and feel patriotic, in a strange way of course. Jericho is also host to 2 of my most favorite characters that are both bad ass and determined which equals macho. Macho characters are masters of television and usually the trap that gets me to love a show.
I don't think we'll see a show like Jericho again for a very long time but if we're lucky maybe one day we'll get a TV movie or mini series to continue the story.
1 - Battlestar Galactica

Do I really have to explain why this is my favorite show and why I think Battlestar Galactica is the best show on television.... No I'm not going to.
I will complain that this show gets no love from any award shows like the Emmy's and Golden Globes. It's bullshit and I'm tired that these awards ceremonys don't recognize quality just because it's science fiction. It's stupid because everyone knows that Galactica is better than everything that ever gets nominated.
Galactica is starting in just a couple of weeks so you better catch up:
Honorable mention and consideration:

Fringe

I’ve seen the pre-airs of `Atlantis’ 19 & 20 and I liked them (check your email, including spam filter). I’m looking forward to the film.
In no particular order (except I’d say `Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles’ is my number one and not just because of the Glaubot) - TSCC, `Atlantis,’ `Burn Notice,’ `Breaking Bad,’ `Galactica.’
Top 5? THat is hard but here I go:
BSG
TSCC
Supernatural
Smallville
Chuck
SGA and Sanctuary sit with ER just outside my top 5- Burn Notice and The Mentalist hang there too filling out my top 10. Oh and Bones- love it too—- too many good choices! At least Burn Notice as a cable show along with SGA run in off peak times so they don’t keep me from watching my top 5 shows!
I too love the BAG on TSCC- can’t wait for the trouble that is coming…. other great addition to TSCC has been Stephanie Jacobsen who blew my mind as Kendra on BSG Razor.
I am so anxious and yet dreading the end of BSG— SGA I know the movies are coming so that keeps my calm.
This year on Supernatural has been OMG! Gotta love the fight between heaven and hell to save humanity from the apolcalypse…kind of like on TSCC with more latin but equal amounts of gun play.
TSCC
BSG
Burn Notice
Dexter
Life
Middleman is on the wish it would come back list.
5. BSG/Terminator (Gets help from the orginals)
4. Chuck
3. The Office
2. Eli Stone
1. Pushing Daisies…Brilliant, colorful, dark and magical. Need to experience it.
Terminator is the best show period. The rest aren’t even worth mentioning.
@ Tony, that’s because you have never watched BSG !
Here goes my TOP 5:
1. BSG
2. BSG
3. BSG
4. BSG
5. BSG
Don’t have to time to watch anything else. Maybe will start with Jericho or TSCC… why everybody likes it if it gets such a bad rating ???
