TV week in Review: Quick Thoughts

Quick thoughts on The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes, Sanctuary and Crusoe

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Earthlings Welcome Here

So yeah, TSCC had an X-Files vibe but the general consensus is that we saw a early model of the hunter killer. It's cool enough I suppose.

I wasn't too crazy about this mid season episode and it definitely isn't what I was looking for to hold me over till February but it is what it is. The entire story line with Sarah and the 3 dots is kind of lame but if it really leads her to the creation of the HK, it could be a nice pay off but everything leading up to it... .blah.

The coolest thing from this weeks episode, I think, is Riley's attempted suicide. I'm assuming she'll live on but it was kind of a shocker for me. We now know she's a survivor of Judgement day or she was born during the holocaust which is something that I find interesting enough but being attached to Jessie and her personal mission.... I don't know if I'm buying that. I actually liked Riley's character more when we thought she was this weird chick from school but now we know she's from the future, blah blah... ehh. I might be in the minority but I don't care about watching Jesse smack around Riley, however, the potential that comes from this story could be cool. When Derek finds out what Jesse and Riley have been doing... he's gonna be pissed and it's going to be the greatest episode ever because he's going to go on a killing spree.

Other than that it was a pretty underwhelming episode. It sucks that we have to wait a while for its return but at least when it returns, it comes back with Dollhouse which is something that I've been looking forward too. It'll be a nice SciFi Friday with TSCC, Dollhouse and Galactica on the SF channel.

Speaking of TSCC return---Is Kyle Reese coming back? Are we ready for that? Or is Sarah dreaming again?

... and my New Years resolution is to marry Summer Glau.

Heroes - Dual

I'll say this right off the bat; the best part of this episode is Peter getting his abilities back. That makes me happier than anything else in this episode. Let's break it down:

Peter - Awesome
Sylar - Awesome
Hiro/Ando/Matt/Daphne - Awesome
Everyone else - Alright at best

I wasn't too crazy about this week--it's a good episode, I think, but I was kind of underwhelmed by it. I guess if I had to rate this episode it would be a 5.5 or a 6 out of ten for these reasons: Peter getting his powers back, Sylar being bad ass, Hayden Panattiere's hot ass in tight jeans, and President Worf. Everything with Hiro, Ando, Matt and Daphne was really great. I love Ando... he's hysterical and now that he has powers we'll be in for some really funny stuff but how will Hiro get his powers back?

The things that I don't like is Nathan, Tracy and Mohinder.... all of that needs to stop or at least have more interesting things to do. Now Mohinder and Tracy are going to hang out.... ehh, they better come up with a cool story. I will say that Nathan has the chance for some cool shit considering he's a Senator and he knows Michael Dorn. These characters really bring down the rating of this episode and frankly this season starting with Nathan and his new found faith. It's all just too much...

I'm glad this chapter is over and I can only hope that Fugitives turns out to be better than the last 2 chapters but until then, I leave you with the preview.

Sanctuary - Instinct

Cylon's, big bugs, and Hud from Cloverfield--that was this weeks Sanctuary, but don't misunderstand me because I actually very much enjoyed this weeks episode.

In short, it's pretty damn fun with some funny stuff from the camera man and that's basically how I reviewed Cloverfield, but this isn't Cloverfield and there wasn't any Slusho; there was a really big nasty bug that looked like a interbreed Ant and Shadow (Babylon 5). Cool design yes, bad CGI - but it is television and I'm not that picky when it comes to that stuff at least for television.

Yet... absolutely no character development. We are almost done with the season I believe, and there hasn't been any character development to speak of and that's the thing that really annoys me with Sanctuary. I'm not betting on any development with the rest of the season.

Crusoe - Name of the Game

Friday has some daddy issues, which we knew when we first met his father, but instead of an episode that soley looked at Crusoe's past we looked at Friday's. When Friday was a boy, to become a man and a warrior he had to do several tasks to achieve that, however, the last test he fail because he wouldn't do it and if I were him, I wouldn't do it either... that shit is crazy. He had to swim in some water.... crocodile infested water - No thanks! Anyways, the entire episode is Crusoe trying to teach Friday that he's a better person than what he thinks.

Just like all of this series, it has it's good moments even though it's a bad show. It's fun and adventurous... that's basically it. In the end Friday redeems himself and all is well.

Crusoe returns on January 10th

Summer Glau is a goddess, no doubt about it. I’m still very much diggin’ TSCC. I liked `Earthlings Welcome Here’ alot. There’s so much to think about with what’s going on, questions of identity and humanity. I think it’s a good bet that the Kyle Reece that comes back is a Kyle from an alternate time-line to the one that was John’s father (fore-shadowed by the conversation between Derek and Jesse after Jesse murdered Fischer). IMHO, TSCC is modelling itself more on Battlestar than anything else. It’s kind of a natural fit to the subject matter. Its problem, I think, is one it shares with many American TV series - they have a large team of writers which leads to uneven plotting and execution of the overall storyline.

sorry phil the the queue to marry summer starts right behind ME.
anyway am still really enjoying tscc, bit of a bummer tho waiting for its return.
one thing tho that has shaken me a bit is the fact how could chromarty be put back together so completly, as i remember he had half his face blown off by cameron.
and now he looks perfect with all his face back together…………..
am a little confused by that.
happy holidays everyone hope you all have a great time……
