Stargate Universe has its lead actor
The first cast member for Stargate Universe has been cast. The Hollywood reporter says Robert Carlyle has signed to play Dr. David Rush.
"Described as edgier, darker and younger-skewing than its predecessors," says THR. " 'SGU' follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by Dr. David Rush, who works to unlock the ship's mysteries and return the group home bu also might have ulterior motives."
Production starts in February for a two-hour premiere and it's expected that SciFi will order 20 episodes for the first season.
I was hoping for a more well known star to fill the role of the lead but since that isn't so, I guess I have no choice but to except this actor, who I don't know. I don't know if I'm even looking forward to this series honestly; with luck the pilot will blow us away and keep us coming back every week because as far as I know, a majority of fans don't even care... they want Atlantis to stay and so do I.

This is good, as he is a good actor. Somehow though i cannot see him committing to a possible 5 to 7 year run.
Also not that i am complaining about this, but i thought they were going for a much younger cast to appeal to a much younger audience?
Still i think this is probably the best news i have heard about this new Stargate yet.
I just read you post again and had to lauth just a little at this coment

The reason why i found this a little funny is that i at least have heard of this actor, When Alantis was first showen i only know the actor who played Macay because he had been in SG-1. But had never seen or heard of the others. Well except Robert Patrick but he was only a guest star.
That’s the thing-When SG-1 started everyone knew who RDA was and I thought Robert Patrick was the star of Atlantis but I was obviously wrong.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying that I think this is a bad move. I’m sure this gentleman will be fine but it would have been cool if the star was a more generally known actor.
True i surpose, Robert Carlyle is very well known here in the UK. Rest of the world not so much.
