TV week in Review: Quick Thoughts

Beware of spoilers.  Quick thoughts on The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes, The Clone Wars, Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary.

No new episodes of Fringe, Knight Rider and Crusoe

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Alpine Fields

I think you all know what I'm going to say; yes, Alpine Fields was a Brain Austin Green centric episode and it was AWESOME! When I saw the preview for this episode I thought it was going to be Lena Headey's episode all the way through but to my pleasant surprise it was all BAG. Like my friends from SarahConnorSociety.net once said, I'm about to sing more love songs to Derek Reese.

He's easily one of my favorite characters on television today and for good reason; Not only is BAG performing like a champ, the character written for him has so many deep levels that it may take a couple of seasons to see most of them. This weeks episode is my second favorite episode of the season, the first being the other BAG episode Goodbye to All That and both taking place partly in the future during the war. Derek is assigned to find a survivor of a plague who is immune so a cure can be developed. While on his mission he finds such terrible things, he considers committing suicide; that's when we first, or more accurately, Derek first meets Jesse who saves his life with just a few words-"your fly is open". During the present, a Terminator is on a search and destroy mission to kill a pregnant woman who is later revealed to be the mother of the immune girl that BAG rescues in the future, and again in the present--get it, good.

Derek shows us more of his scars from the turmoil of war, a war we'll finally see (see trailer HERE), and in trying to keep my thoughts short and not write another 5 paragraphs on why I love this show, the execution of this episode and the rest of the series is what keeps me coming back. Granted the overall plot twist, if you want to call it that, can be seen from a mile away doesn't negate the fact with a well written script, excellent execution, and a class actor, a television episode can become part of the best entertainment of the year.

Tonight will be the last episode of TSCC until Friday Feb. 13th--take note of the new day.

Heroes: Our Father

Last week I made a bet that Elle wasn't dead and Sylar stopped killing her just in time; I was wrong and I'm not too happy--some of you aren't to happy either as some of you have already let me know. We all love Kristen Bell and none of us wanted to see her go, and if the story calls for it, it calls for it. Maybe it'll work out better for the series, however, I wanted to see more... a lot more of Elle.

As usual, my quick thoughts:

Sylar - Awesome
Hiro - Awesome
Peter/The Haitian - Short but great
Claire - Pretty cool and weird (she changed her own diaper as a baby)
Ando/Matt/Daphne - Short but cool
Nathan/Tracy/Mohinder - ehh, Alright i guess but it's necessary

I'll start with this; Everything Sylar was bad ass and awesome! That whole thing in the office while killing the chick who can tell if people are lying was great--"cake!" Haha, and while in the elevator covered in blood with the scared Asian guy, priceless, I say.

Hiro's storyline was touching although it had a very Hiro ending. In this episode we met Hiro's mother Ishi Nakamura played by the beautiful Tamlyn Tomita who you'll recognize from The Karate Kid II, Babylon 5: The Gathering and a couple of episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, and among a large range of other things. She had the light or the catalyst and she gave it to Hiro, which we all know was a mistake. Arthur came back, took the light, took Hiro's power and left him in the past.... oh man.

Last, it looks like Peter/Sylar killed Arthur but who knows if he'll heal. We'll find out more tonight.

On another note, Brain Fuller is back to work on a couple of episodes at the end of the season and hopefully, that will bring back that first season charm we've all be missing.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lair of General Grievous

Here we have the continuation of last weeks episode; after Nute Gunray escaped from Ahsoka and Luminara, Jedi Master Kit Fisto and his former apprentice now Jedi knight Nahdar go on the hunt leading them to General Greivous's lair, but was it by chance they ended up there or were they lead.

Just like last week this episode of The Clone Wars was full of Jedi lightsaber action. It kind of shows the difference between experience and being impatient as Nahdar gets his butt kicked and finally killed by Grievous while Kit Fisto stays calm and uses his Jedi training to stay alive and escape. Nahdar by the way is the same species as Admiral "It's a trap" Ackbar.

I'll admit I wasn't as entertained like I was last week but for no particular reason. I suppose I like the characters last week more than the characters this week, however, it was still another kick ass episode of The Clone Wars.

The next episode looks really cool but we won't see it until after the new year; Jan 2nd.

Stargate Atlantis - Identity

Yet again, another episode of Atlantis that I enjoyed sitting through but one of my least favorites of the season, which isn't saying much because the season is awesome and I still enjoyed this episode. In this episode, Dr. Keller and a thief named Neeva switch bodies just like the SG-1 season 9 episode Origin. It provides for some fun entertainment and some pretty cool gun fighting action but overall there isn't much character development and served more as a filler episode to the season.

I don't have anything against filler episodes because they can always turn out to be great but the 3rd to last episode of the series.... yea, it shouldn't have been a filler. It seems like next week is another filler but it also looks like a lot of fun.

Other than that, I don't have that much to say about this ep except Jewel Staite looked sexy in her slut thief dress and the chick who played Neeva is hot too.

The next episode won't premiere until after the new year; Jan 2nd.

Sanctuary - Warriors

Wow! This episode was stupid, lol. That's basically all I can say about it.

First off, the lame unemotional reaction Helen has when she sees her father for the first time in however long is so terrible, can't even begin to explain. I love Amanda Tapping, but shame on her... If I haven't seen my father for as long as she hasn't and I found him staggering around some building... I'd piss my pants, breakdown emotionally and say WTF! Her reaction was this.... "your my father" -- "no I'm not" -- "yes" Wow... Inspiring.

Second, the horrible muscle suit was worse than the Apollo fat suit. THIS is what it looked like and it was just as ridiculous.

That said, next week looks like the "Cloverfield" approach... that should be interesting. Rekha Sharma form Battlestar is guest starring.

Yeah, Terminator just rocks. Hate the wait but it comes back with Doll House. Which almost makes up for it.

Yea, coming back with Dollhouse will be a nice night for us, it’s like having SciFi Fridays back. I miss that.
