The 2009 Golden Globe Nominations

I don't get it...

The nominations for 2009 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday morning and guess what... I think 60% of the nominations don't deserve to be nominated especially in television.  There isn't any point in complaining about it because it's not like I can do anything about it, however, I'll mention that Wall-E should have got a best picture nod, The Dark Knight should have got a best score nod, Let the Right One In should have got a best foreign film nod, and Tropic Thunder should have got a best comedy nod.

When it comes to television it seems like The Hollywood Foreign Press is blind.  True Blood got a nod for best TV drama, which is so stupid because it's not that great of a show.  If True Blood is the caliber of shows getting nominated than Battlestar Galactica should be on that list and win because Galactica is sooo much--way better show than True Blood.   Anna Paquin as best actress.... WTF? Her character is at best laughable.  It's all the same shit every year and I really don't take the Globes seriously any more, and it's getting to the point that the Emmy's can't be taken seriously anymore either.

I think it's wrong that these award shows don't respect good movies or TV just because it's science fiction.  Most of SciFi is way better than the shit that's been nominated.  BSG should have like 10 nominations--Best Drama, Best Lead Actor & Actress (Olmos & McDonell at least), Best Supporting Actor & Actress (James Callis and Katee Sackhoff... I mean c'mon).

On another note, thanks to Alison for the heads up, director Sam Mendez and actress Kate Winslet of Revolutionary Road send out thanks for all of the nominations they received.  Here is what they both had to say:

Mendez

“We are all delighted and honored that the Hollywood Foreign Press recognized the film in such a generous way. This was a labor of love for all of us and to see it being received in such a positive way is very gratifying.”

Winslet

“I can't believe it!  I am incredibly grateful for these nominations.  I am so honored and proud to be included this year, in the company of all these incredible women and alongside my on screen and off screen husbands!  And to be a part of two of the best picture nominees!  I am very very happy today!”

That's classy of them and I wish them luck as well as all nominees, even though I don't think some of them should have been nominated... that's just my opinion.

-Phil
