Kevin McKidd still running for Thor

I just got my Rome DVD's in the mail about 15 minutes ago... I'm so excited to rewatch the series, but this post isn't about Rome, it's about Marvel's Thor.

A while back it was rumored that Kevin McKidd was being considered for the title role in the Marvel film, but he was among several actors including  Brad Pitt at one point to play the part.  While speaking to IGN, McKidd says that he's "still a contender" for the part of Thor, however, there has been "a lot of back and forth" with the studio.  That usually means the studio and production team are still working things out which is completely normal.  He also says a chance to work with director Kenneth Branagh is something that gets him very excited.

This is the thing about McKidd -- He'd make a great Thor, but he's somewhat small for how Thor was portrayed in the comics, but I doubt that is a concern for the studio and I personally don't care.  McKidd is an awesome actor and he'll be great for the part, if he gets it, and I hope he does but I'm sure Marvel will do everything they can to make this movie right.  So far with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk the casting pick for the lead superhero has been top notch.

Thor is going to be release July 16, 2010 so that will give Marvel a little more time to figure things out but they need to start casting very soon.  I won't be surprised if we start hearing things in the coming weeks and months.  Who would you like to see as Thor?

KMK would be PERFECT for Thor. His lovely scar, that I frequently dream of stroking softly with tender fingertips, is just the thing for a macho super-hero.

He’s hardly small! He’s 6′1″ with a frame capable of bulking up considerably. Anyone remember the scene in Rome when Niobe bathes him? Muscles galore!

And you know what else? He can ACT! What a concept! A lead actor who has mastered the craft!

Holy shit, I didn’t know he’s 6′1″… I guess standing next to Ray Stevenson he looks small. I take back my statement and thank you for the correction! You can’t expect me to know every little detail ;)
