McG updates us on Terminator Salvation

The movie that I'm most skeptical in seeing for the 2009 season is definitely Terminator Salvation.  I've said many times that I don't think McG has it in him in creating a good Terminator film and I've said many times that I don't like any of the cast except for Christian Bale, who I think would make a great John Connor.  I actually wish Terminator Salvation was written by the fellas over at Sarah Connor Chronicles but no.  I think T4 is going to suck... it is after all coming from a story written by the guys who wrote Catwomen; you know, the Halle Berry disaster.  The only good thing to come from that is the script is written by John Nolan, co-writer to The Dark Knight.

Anyways, the point of this post is that filming has finished and McG has posted a blog about it.  Here's a couple of quotes.

  • We wrapped principal photography. Now we're heavy into post. I've already shown early cuts to Christian and Sam. They seem pleased with where the film is headed. Our focus is on story and character, but it's fun diving into the world of visual effects.
  • We want the patina of the machines to be dirty and heavy and perfectly realistic - that's why we built so much practically with Stan Winston. But at some point the effects kick in and like any Terminator fan, Charlie wants his mind blown. There's one sequence in particular where we're trying to achieve something that's never been done before. I don't want to talk about it because we haven't been successful yet...
  •  Christian and Sam bring power to the rolls of John Connor and Marcus Wright. This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicity's that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine.

I hope that this movie is good.  As a Terminator fan I really really hope that I'm wrong and McG pulled it off.  I just don't have any faith whatsoever.  I'll still be there opening day but if this movie sucks expect a review that reflects that.  But if I eat my words, I'll jump for joy and ask for forgiveness.
