Heroes season 3 premiere review
A new season of Heroes.
Last season was a huge disappointment for all television with the writers strike and the shorten season. Heroes was an unfortunate victim of that with only several episodes for the second season but on top of that disappointment, season two turned out to be an underwhelming season for a majority of fans. However even though season two was a creative disappointment it was very apparent each episode got better and better returning to the same quality that the premiere season gave us. Then it was cut short by the strike.
With the quality of the second season returning to form a third season became very anticipated by fans. During this past San Diego Comic Con, a special showing of Heroes was shown to fans. The first part of the premiere The Second Coming was featured and reviews were at best mixed. Some people seemed to be overly amazed but a lot of people didn't know what to make of the premiere and needed to see more. This past Monday the fans were able to see more and most of us were able to see it for the first time. Was the anticipation of the third season premiere worth the long long wait? Well... not really. I'll be absolutely honest; the first two Heroes episodes The Second Coming and The Butterfly Effect are very underwhelming, boring and annoying.

- For starters the coolest thing that both episodes had was Hiro's look into the future. Ando's new ability looks really cool and the unknown explosion that Hiro saw in Japan was sick. The look of the city, I think Tokyo, and the look of the explosion was a very cool visual. Both future Hiro and future Ando do look more seasoned for lack of a better term and a little more bad ass.
- Basically everything with Sylar in episode one and two was good stuff. Fighting Claire and his interaction with her while finding her ability in her brain was cool to see. The overall fact that he might actually be the hero needed to stop those villains released from level 5 is a really awesome concept.
- The fact that future Peter, a more experience Peter, has is own story line and is essentially the villain of this season is interesting and cool. I'm looking forward to seeing where he's going.
- I already mentioned Sylar but I think that Noah (HRG) and Sylar working together as a team.... is probably the best story this season is going to have.
Dislikes:
- Season 3 starts the same as the other two seasons. The future is a mess and they have to fix it in the past or the present. It might be a fresh story but it seems like a template. I'm not buying it anymore.
- I'm very disappointed in Hayden Panettiere's performance. I think she's a great actress especially in the first season but in the first two episodes I honestly was suninterested in her story. The only scene where I thought she was in form was the Sylar scene. Other than that.... blah. I understand that her character can't feel anything anymore but the interpretation of that by Panettiere wasn't very compelling.
- Nathan suddenly turns into a hard core believer... "God's Plan".... c'mon! This isn't Battlestar Galactica.
- I love Ali Larter, I think she's incredibly hot. There might be more to her character but I'm getting sick and tired of watching her go back and forth with different characters. There isn't any character development with them. There is a theory that Larter's Nikki character is actually dead and this new person is completely different. I still need to see more from this character but at first look, I'm not impressed.
- Mohinder's story line of finding a way of creating his own powers is soo stupid. I've heard this from Comic Con but I didn't believe it. I thought it would be cool but after seeing it for myself... ughh.
- Why is Maya still on this show?
- Heroes has too many things going on, too many characters. They need to cut down on the characters starting with Maya and Mohinder. Both of them need to go. If they bring back Nikki's kid, I can't remember his name, I hope they kill him off because he needs to go. If they get ride of Maya, Mohinder, Nikki & her kid, it will give them a chance to focus on the characters that people like more.... or at least I like more.
- There isn't anything exciting to speak of in the opening. It's pretty boring. I might like were future Peter is going in his story... but all he does is teleport. I want to see him kick ass and do something exciting. If I want to see someone transport all the time I'll watch Star Trek.
I could probably go on and on but I'm not. I wasn't that happy with the season premiere but I can only hope that the rest of the season could get better and more exciting. I'm a firm believer that a season premiere needs to start off with a major bang and Heroes didn't accomplish that with me. In fact the only TV show to do that was Terminator. I was hoping Heroes could open with excitment but I was wrong. Some people might disagree with my first thoughts but I'll say it again, I'm underwhelmed.
The next episode of Heroes is on tonight and with luck it will start raising the bar. We'll find out later tonight.
