Confirmed: Ghostbusters 3 Officially Being Written!!

5 September 2008 One Comment

Yesterday I posted up rumors that Ghostbusters 3 was being written, the rumors coming from Ghostbusters actor Dan Aykroyd himself.  Still, even if it came from him I was still skeptical because of all of the rumors of a Ghostbuster 3 sequel for years.  However today that all changes and I can’t tell you how excited I am.

Slashfilm.com says that the trades are reporting that Columbia Pictures/Sony have hired their writters to write the script.  “The trades are reporting that Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (co-exec producers/writers on NBC’s The Office) have officially been hired by Columbia Pictures/Sony to pen the script for Ghostbusters 3,” says Hunter Stephenson of Slashfilm.  “The script will reportedly bring together the original cast including Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, Slimer?, though none of the actors have officially signed to reprise their roles.”

Also it could possibly big news, Ivan Reitman who directed the first 2 films is “aware and involved” in the development of Ghostbusters 3 but who knows if he’ll direct it.  I hope he does, why not?  It’s also been confirmed that the story would be about the next generation of Ghostbusters.  Akyroyd did say he’s love to get Seth Rogan and Judd Aptow to be part of the film.

With luck they might be able to Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts to reprise their roles too.  I don’t think Moranis acts anymore but anything can happen.  I really hope this can get made, and I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a big disappointment like other older franchises that blew it this summer.

Also, just an FYI I suddenly realized you may not know -

The new Ghostbusters Game coming out this year for PS3 and XBOX360 was written by Akroyd and Ramis and was based off *their* script for Ghostbusters 3 - the one the studios wouldn’t pay to make. So if you want to see what they intended to put on the big screen, good sir, you will have your chance - play the game.

Just a little tidbit for you.
