Will Superman Return Or Will Superman Reboot?
Last week there was rumors that Warner Bros didn't really know what to do with Superman Returns mainly because they weren't happy with the box office take. The WB still wants to make another Superman film but from the sounds of it, it won't be a Bryan Singer film and it will be a reboot of the franchise.
ComingSoon.net put up a report saying that, "Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman."
"Superman didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," Robinov says about the Singer film. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009, but now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
Look, I admit proudly that I'm one of the minority that really liked Superman Returns. The fact that they want to reboot the franchise is a little upsetting. If they continued the Singer franchise I don't think people would go and spend the money to see it, even if superhero films are hot right now. Not a lot of people liked Returns and in some cases for good reason. However if they reboot the franchise I don't know if people would go see it anyways because a total reboot and going in a different direction might be confusing to the regular movie goer.
I personally have faith in Bryan Singer to make an incredible sequel with Brandon Routh as Superman. He's already proven that with X-Men 2. So overall, I'm not too happy about a reboot and I think it's kind of unfair that Singer isn't getting the chance that he deserves.

I don’t think it’ll be that confusing - remember how *warmly* the community embraced Casino Royale, and that was a total reboot. I think modern audiences are more sophisticated than they used to be.
I’m looking forward to this because you can’t keep making things like Superman Returns - it was an 80’s movie that kept the 80’s sensibilities, and I’d rather see the movies evolve.
