Stargate Universe Is A Go!
Just when I wrote the post about Stargate Atlantis ending after its current season because I thought SCI FI was making room for the talked about 3rd series Stargate Universe, word comes out that yes, Universe has been greenlite.
“SCI FI has enjoyed tremendous success with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, and we’re proud to be the home of the new Stargate Universe,” Mark Stern, executive vice president of SCI FI says in a statment that SCI FI Wire shares. “Universe will continue the Stargate legacy of vibrant storylines and compelling adventures, but will re-invent the format in a whole new way.”
I’m still sore from the cancellation of Atlantis and what makes it worse, the episdoe I just saw was dramtically one of the best of the series. This season so far has been very good and I think it has the best stories so far. Even so, I’m pumped that a new Stargate series is on the way. SCI FI has also released the synopsis of Universe:
“After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate’s ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by the Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion but never completed.
What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never-ending mission as the Stargate Universe crew discovers that the ship is unable to return to Earth and that they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.
The Crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny’s original mission.”
It sounds like a cross of Star Trek Voyager, Lost In Space and Sliders. Whatever happens I hope a good solid cast can be put together like they’ve done with the other series and I hope it follows in good tradition that is Stargate. So with that all said, I’m very excited to see the first episodes of the series.
The series will hit the network early 2009.

Hmm, Ninth Chevron … Ancients…
Time travel?
I dunno. I’m worried about a Voyager-clone Stargate, but we’ll see.
