Darren Aronofsky Confirmed To Direct Robocop
A couple of weeks ago the reports of a Robocop remake hit the net, then rumors that Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky was in talks to direct, then rumors that Robocop is in fact a sequel and not a remake. Now with the first day of Comic-Con we hear the official word that Aronofsky is directing from FirstShowing.net:
"MGM just announced tonight that [Darren Aronofsky] has signed on to direct Robocop and that screenwriter David Self (of The Haunting, Thirteen Days, and Road to Perdition) is penning the script. MGM is fast tracking the film and moving it into production sometime nexy year for release in 2010."
I really hope this works out for Aronofsky and in the long run, for us fans. I love Robocop and at first I hated the idea of a remake but the confirmation of Aronofsky gives me a little hope for a bad ass film and since it sounds like it's going to be a sequel puts me at ease a little. I'll be honest, I'd rather have a crappy sequel than a crappy remake.
Today after I got out of my annoying job I had a conversation with NFD writer Ernest about a Robocop film and he came up with a good idea. Since Peter Weller (Alex Murphy) is an older man now and he wouldn't work as Robocop any more he said... well can't they just dub his voice over the actor playing Robocop. It's seems so simple.... and I like the idea. Seriously, how great would that be. It would really tie the classic films up with this new film very nicely. What do you think?
