The Monster Squad Remake?!?!

The Monster SquadYou can just add this to the list of films nobody wants to see remade.  Why?  Because why remake a classic when it's a good movie to begin with.

Rob Cohen, director of the upcoming The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, told Bloody-Disgusting that a remake of the 1987 classic Monsters Squad directed by Fred Dekker is in the works.

"The Wolfmans got Nards! What a great Line" Cohen say's to Bloody-Disgusting already annoying the hell out of me.  Cohen tells BD that Paramount Pictures has bought all the rights for Monster Squad and Cohen has been waiting to finish up on The Mummy 3 until he starts talking to Paramount about remaking it.  "Maybe I would direct, maybe someone else with me producing.  I really think highly of that film... I mean, how great is it with The Mummy, The Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Frankenstein they all were in it!  It would be a prime remake!'

Ok, first of all if Cohen thinks  so highly of Monster Squad, he shouldn't be remaking it especially when he was executive producer on the original film.  Yes, Rob Cohen wants to remake a movie he was involved in to begin with back in the 80s.  I understand in a sense that today's audience not many people know about Monster Squad and that's unfortunate but since not many people know about the original film it would probably be good buisness for a remake.  However, would anyone actually see it?  Maybe, but not with Rob Cohen directing.  Don't get me wrong, I might be looking forward to The Mummy 3 but I'm not expecting a good movie for the simple reason that Rob Cohen isn't a great director.  Take The Fast and The Furious, xXx and Stealth as examples.  Do you know what kinds of movies those are?  They're crap!

Hopefully Paramount will see the light and just archive Monster Squad and leave it be.  Paramount should be spending their money on cooler things like Transformers 3 when the time comes.
