Narnia.mobi Gets Scottish Family Sued
During a visit to TheMovieBlog, this article was brought to my attention and I wanted to comment on it.
The family of The Chronicles Of Narnia creator, C.S. Lewis is bringing a Scottish Family to court over a domain name that the family bought apparently as a birthday gift for their 10 year old son. According to Yahoo!, "Richard and Gillian Saville-Smith, who live in Edinburgh, paid 70 pounds ($140) to purchase the domain name Narnia.mobi from the internet registration company Fasthosts in 2006 so their son could have it as an email address." After the family bought the name, the C.S. Lewis company demanded that the domain named be return however, the family refused. Upon refusal the Saville-Smith family recieved a 128 page legal complaint. The 10 year old child mother says that the gift was to "...coincide with the release of the Narnia film," referring to Prince Caspian.
I don't know the facts on this situation and for all I know that family is using the child as sympathy towards this but seriously.... it's a frakin domain name. The estate of C.S. Lewis should have bought it once they sold movie rights. Not for nothing, it's not even a big deal and it seriously pisses me off. How many websites on the internet have the title of a movie in it. For example when Cloverfield was on it's way, 100s of websites were created that said Cloverfield in it and very much had to do with the movie.... but everyone knew that they weren't the official sites. Let the kid have the domain name... he's a fan for godsake. It's not like people will automatically assume that Narnia.mobi is an official site. STOP CRYING LEWIS FAMILY!
Maybe the Lewis estate is just pissed that their movies aren't good enought to bring in major profit.

The father snapped up Narnia.mobi. TheQueen.mobi, ThePresident.mobi and about 30 others when the mobi domain came out 2 years ago. He has the domains “parked” at SEDO making ad click revenue off them - including Narnia related adverts. Who buys a present for their kid and waits two years to give it to them? The father is a domain speculator using his kid for sympathy.
“SEDO making ad click revenue off them”
Errr, not true.. I have a domain using sedo nameservers and I dont earn a frickin cent from them! Bullshit Danny B.
