Film Icon Stan Winston Passes Away
It's a tragic day for the movie world past, present and future. Legend and one of the last practical effects artist Stan Winston has passed away. I say one of the last because practical effects is becoming a dying art next to visual effects. Winston was 62 years old and passed away on Father's Day.
The list of his work is huge but here is a few just so you get an idea of what he's done: Terminator 1,2,3&4 / Aliens / The Monster Squad / Predator 1 & 2 / The Thing / Friday the 13th 3 / Jurassic Park 1,2&3 / Iron Man / Avatar / Pearl Harbor / Congo / Interview with the Vampire and soooo many more.
If you head over to Ain't It Cool a couple directors left notes on their experience and feelings for Winston. Head over there for directors like James Cameron and Jon Favreau.

Sadness. So much sadness. The man was a genius, and he went before his time. Creator of the Terminators I so adore looking at (even if they terrify me on some primal level), nobody did it quite as well as he, and he will be missed.
