Zak Penn Receives Sole Writing Credit Leaving Ed Norton Out!

The Incredible Hulk

This is one of the more surprising stories that I've read in a couple of weeks.  A majority of movie bloggers and so forth are aware that The Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton was also responsable for major rewrites to the original script by Zak Penn.  However, the IESB put up a post confirming that Norton will not receive any kind of writing credit which is very odd because of the amount of work he put into this script and the rumors of how passionate he is about this film.  Upon contacting Zak Penn's office it was confirmed that Penn is receiving sole credit then Universal responed that the WGA determined the credit, "WGA determined the writing credit not Zak or Edward or Universal or Marvel.  WGA always determines final writing credit for our films right before the film comes out.  Up until that time, we include the writers on the project to date."  After that IESB called the WGA and their respones was, "Zak Penn is receiving sole credit for the story and screenplay."

I'm not going to lie and act like I know the WGA rules and contract because I don't but just common sense wise wouldn't you think that Ed Norton would receive some kind of credit.  As a union member myself for the Teamsters I know that unions follow the given contract, or at least were I'm from, so it could be possible that Penn had an upper hand on the finale script.  This is all just rambling thoughts, I don't know what happened, I just find it all very interesting.  Maybe Norton isn't part of the WGA because if that's the case, then credit would belong to Penn, who knows.
