Jake Gyllenhaal Is Starring In Prince Of Persia

Jake Gyllenhaal

After a couple of weeks of rumors it's finally been confirmed. Jake Gyllenhaal is headlining as the Prince Of Persia.

Back in April, Latino Review broke the news that Gyllenhaal was offered the role of Dastan.  Now Slashfilm.com is confirming that Gyllenhaal is now the Prince.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner. Mechner has revealed that the movie will not be a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the videogame, but will instead take “some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story - much as ‘Pirates’ [of the Caribbean] did with the theme park ride.” Production is set to begin in July, and a tenative June 16th 2009 release date was previously announced.

I don't know how much I buy Gyllenhaal in this role.  He's a fine actor for sure, but I just don't see him fitting in for this movie, he doesn't look the part in my opinion.

Ehh, I'm sure he'll be fine so I guess I'll just go with it.  To be honest, this news really doesn't excite me because video game movies aren't that good usually.
