Heroes Origins Officially Dead + Premiere News

Heroes

Last summer it was announced that Heroes was going to get a spinoff series called Origins.  It was going to be a show that featured a different character each week.  Origins was a show that pulled in some of the most talented people in the buisness including Kevin Smith who was hired to write and direct an episode.  Then came the WGA strike and like everything else, Origins was put on hold then eventually shelved.

Today when I was surfing the net like usual, I came checked out a site that I haven't been too in a while since the end of season two, The Tenth Wonder.  They're reporting that Origins has been scrapped all together.

Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC, said that the Origins project is now officially scrapped and noted that NBC felt like the project would be too taxing on the Heroes creative team and that it would be better for the main show not to spread themselves too thin.

They don't have a source listed or credited, so I don't know where it came from.  I might just be theres exclusive.  More then likely I completely missed it when I look for material.... but enough about me.

I'm really not all that upset that Origins has been canned.  I'm kind of in agreement with Ben Silverman when he said that it would be better for the creative team to stick with Heroes exclusively.  Heroes is a complex show to begin with and all of their efforts would be better spent with that directly.  Season two wasn't considered some of the best programing and they knew that and they are trying to go back to there original formula.  Thats what they should concentrate on.

I'm not against Origins, but as for right now, I don't think this is the time for it, plus its a little to early for a new series or mini series since Heroes is realistically so young.  Its only been on for a season and a half for the most part.  I say let a couple of more season go by before Origins gets on its feet again.

Heroes Premiere 3 Hours Long!

In other Heroes news a couple of days ago it was announced that the 3rd season called, Villians, will be premiering September 15th.   The 15th will be full of Heroes goodness with a 3 hour premiere event.  The first hour being a clip show, likely recap, and after that a 2 hour season premiere.

I'm trying not to get too excited because thats still a long time away.  You have to remember if it wasn't for that damn strike we would still be watching season 2 episodes.

Also, is Heroes getting webisodes?  It sounds like it.  Apparently July of this year, Heros will begin its webisode run on NBC.com.  "Online manhunts for the villians, the addition of more mirco sites that allow the user to unvover more of the "Heroes" universe, wireless iTV interactivity and the ability to view the graphic novel on mobile platforms." - NBCumv.com

There you have it folks, thats all I got on Heroes for now.
