Indy 4 Will Not Be Full Of CGI

Indiana Jones

io9.com had a chance to speak with Guy Hendrix Dyas, production designer on Indiana Jones 4.  He tells io9.com that Indy 4 will not be Lucasfied and will be mostly free of CGI.

Many people had feared that George Lucas' involvement in the new Indiana Jones would mean another spate of greenscreen craziness, along the lines of the three Star Wars prequels. But Dyas says:

There really wasn't much CGI. We built all the sets... We built all of the [moving stone staircases, converging stone pillars and other pieces] so it was very nice.

I'm really glad to hear that.  Using real sets and all of that is becoming a lost art and its really unfortunate.  I don't mind movies that use CGI but some movies are just dripping with it.  As much as I love George Lucas, him making all of the Clone Troopers, and everything else except Obi Wan and Anakin, CGI... was really stupid.

The one think that I'll miss is the matte paintings.  More then likely the far backround will be CGI instead of the old style matte paintings.  Seeing all of that in Indy 4 would be really refreshing.  I honestly hope that the lack of CGI will force us to have the same feelings we've had in the other 3 films.  So I'm assuming that the only CGI thats going to be in there is backrounds, rotoscoping and little things hear and there.

To look at some examples from Indy 4 head over to io9.com
