Ironman At Wondercon - Description

I just got back from Wonder Con during which I got to sit in on a Q&A with John Favreau and I have to say, I’m more hyped about the movie than I ever was before. In all honesty I think this movie will be putting Transformers to shame.
The session was pretty quick, Favreau admits that he’s new to the whole Con scene with ComicCon 2007 being his first, he does the obligatory thanks to the fans for all the support and launches right into the Q&A which he handles like a champ. He’s a pro at taking boring or redundant questions and building on them.
One of which, the 3rd question I think, a woman asked if Downey actually got lift from the boots. This was responded with chuckles form the crowd but John asked if she talking about the trailer from the superbowl and then used it to us a 90 second segment of Tony Stark learning how to fly with the boots and gauntlets which not only looked cool as heck but also had a fair amount of well placed humor.
Eventually a fan asked the hulk crossover question, the one that fans have been talking about: “are the rumors true?”,”will there be characters from The Hulk appearing in the Iron Man movie and vice versa”
The answer that Favreau gave couldn’t have been said better by a politician. Basically he neither denied nor admitted the possibility. Instead he talked about how the fans are pretty smart and have been able to assemble most of the movie just from online chatter, trailers and what they’ve seen at cons. He went on to say that he didn’t want to give up all his secrets since it would spoil all the fun for the movie goers and simply ended it with stating that some of the rumors are true, others are not.
One question I thought Favreau was brilliant at answering was when a little boy came up and asked him “what made him want to do Iron Man”. John gave probably the best and most honest answer a person could say. He said “the Blockbuster success of Zathura!” with a smile. He went on to mention how he really enjoyed working with Stan Winston on Iron Man and admitted that he was never a visual f/x fan but after working with Stan Winston on the practical f/x side and seeing how well the v/fx could be melded into it all he changed his stance with the understanding that v/fx can be really great in a movie if it’s done properly and he acknowledged that ILM has been doing such a great job with the v/fx that sometimes he even has trouble distinguishing the practical from the CG shots.
He also took a moment to give props to the likes of Michael Bay and Stephen Spielberg who can film nothing but scenery with the vision that something will be there. John stated it’s a lot harder than he ever managed to do something like that.
Finally came the moment everyone was waiting for. A look at the new trailer that will be hitting theaters shortly, he apologized stating that this would not be the 90 second trailer we’ve been waiting for, instead it would be a 2:30 trailer!
I have to say, this trailer was kick ass! It starts off with the sequence we’re all familiar, the one where he’s standing in the desert making a weapons sales pitch but this time we’ve got AC/DC’s – Back in Black playing while a massive explosion goes off during his speech scaring the hell out of the troops while he stands there and is engulfed by the dust flying all around him. The music switches over to Audioslave – Cochise and now we’re watching new scenes of Iron Man flying including one where he breaks in mid flight and lets 2 fighter jets blow pass him. Finally it’s Black Sabbath’s – Iron Man and it’s the fight sequences, a few we’ve seen, a few we haven’t, including a standoff between Iron Man and Iron Monger in-between which Tony Stark is giving a PR speech about rumors of him being some kind of crime fighter and stating how preposterous it all is.
I honestly can’t wait for the rest of you to see this new trailer!
