Star Trek Pushed Back Until May Of 2009!

Paramount Studios has just made a move that will have Star Trek fans, including myself, ready to kill. They have pushed back my most anticipated film back 4 months. Star Trek was initially going to premiere this Christmas, December 25th, but now pushed back to May 8th. To top it of, the people from Paramount say that in their new slot, there isn't any competition.
From Variety:
Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, saying the pic's gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole. "Star Trek" has no competition in its new slot -- at least not so far, although it opens one week after 20th Century Fox bows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and one week before Sony is slated to bow sequel "Angels and Demons."
Ok... first of, no compition? Take a look what is premiere a week before. Do you honestly think that Wolverine is not going to effect the opening weekend of Star Trek? Now, take a look whats premiere a week after Star Trek. As much as people complain about the Da Vinci Code, it made a tremondous amount of money. Do you honestly think this won't?
With Star Trek in between two monster films, its doomed to failure. Lets face it people, Star Trek doesn't have a big of a fan base as people think. There aren't enough to score big money on this film. Big money is what Star Trek needs to stay alive!!! At the budget they have, they need to make $50 Million opening weekend just to give the studio hope that people want to see the movie.
The goal is for new fans right! Well... people who've never seen Star Trek, or never cared for it, aren't going to come see it, when they have Wolverine and Angel's and Demon's to choose from. The regular person doesn't care about Star Trek. They think of all the sterotypes about the fans and its really sad. So the answer to all of that is, "lets move Star Trek in between two very anticipated blockbusters." Brilliant!!
Now on the other hand, this can potentially be a very good thing for the quality of the film. Its widely known that JJ Abrams, director, has been very frustrated that he couldn't tweak a few things here and there during filming because he honored the WGA strike and wouldn't sway from the written script. I completely respect that. That said, now that the strike is over, he can now go back and do reshoots on some of the things he thought would make the film better. Does anyone know what else is possible... Now that the strike is over, they can go back to finding a way to bring back the true Kirk, William Shatner. If they haven't figured something out already. Since its been pushed back 4 months, they have a lot more time to do more things story wise, shooting wise, plus more time to work on CGI.
Overall... Finacially and stratigiclly I think its a horrible idea, but the story factor could potentially give us a better movie. Plus, I'm really upset and 2008 feels like a burden now, lol.
