National Treasure 3 & 4 On The Way?

National Treasure

Sounds like Disney is really keen on making National Treasure into a big franchise.  You really can’t blame them.  National Treasure 2 is just raking in the cash.  Domestically its just over $206 million, plus the foriegn take brings Nation Treasure 2 just over $365 million.

Jimhillmedia.com tells us that Disney just registered 2 domain names, NATIONALTREASURE3DVD.COM & NATIONALTREASURE4DVD.COM.

Thats not all.  Apparently there is a plot floating around that brings the Gates family to Atlantis.  Thats never been done before (Sarcasem).

Inside the Frank Wells building, there’s already a brief plot description making the rounds. Which would supposedly send the Gates family off to Easter Island and beyond in search of Atlantis. More importantly, the pure, clean power source that was supposedly lost forever when this ancient civilization sank beneath the sea. Which — were it to be harnessed today — would immediately put an end to global warming. Not to mention making gas & oil obsolete.

Of course, given the way things work in Hollywood, that proposed storyline is bound to change once the writer’s strike has been resolved and official development can finally begin on the “National Treasure 3″ screenplay.

So there you have it.

I might be sarcastic in saying “thats never been done before” but the truth is, I don’t care.  I love the idea.  I’ve said so many times before, that I’m such a sucker for adventure history films, whether its fact, fiction or science fiction.  I think they all great.  I love the Indiana Jones movies (like everyone else), I like the National Treasure films, I even like the Tomb Raider movies and even The Librarian movies.  I can’t help it, I’m just crazy for them.  Thankfully, all of these I just mentioned are getting another movie except one.  Indy of course, National Treasure apparently, and The Librarian is getting another.  Unfortunatly, no Angelina Jolie for Tomb Raider.

So overall, I’m totally for another 2 movies!  Atlantis must be page 47 in the book of secrets…

I think that anything like Atlantis or Fountain of Youth would be a really _bad_ idea for the next movies. I mean, for most of the people, the excitement and the tension of the movies has been that these treasures and clues are almost something, that you could believe. But if they find Atlantis… Hey c’mon, that’s so a myth because the story of Atlantis is not even possible, or that’s what all the latest theories and proof say! A much more better idea would be some Chinese or African treasure or some sunken ship, but I really hope that these writers come up with something really interesting, exciting and suprising :) - and hopefully something that could be more than just a stupid myth!

And I think that three movies would be just perfect, because how many great treasures there can be found? Fourth movie could become a ridicilous flop, and we don’t want that, do we?
