Paramount In Talks With Reeves For Cloverfield 2

Cloverfield

Paramount and Bad Robots, Cloverfield is just raking in a load of money, and its not even doing that well in the theater.  According to Box Office Mojo, its made $65 million only on a budget of $25 million.  $40 million in profit, isn't bad at all.  Cloverfield isn't done yet... It still need to be wide released internationally, plus eventually, DVD sales.  Big money for a small movie, isn't it.

So of course Paramount would be considering a sequel.  Variety informs us:

Matt Reeves is in early talks with Paramount to direct a "Cloverfield" sequel, and he has also made a deal with GreeneStreet Films to direct "The Invisible Woman."

Timing of the projects will depend on how quickly Paramount can complete discussions with Reeves, producer J.J. Abrams and scribe Drew Goddard to scare up another monster tale for the "Cloverfield" sequel. There's a good chance the sequel will be Reeves' next film, in which case he will direct "The Invisible Woman" afterward.

Anyone who thought that a sequel wouldn't be considered doens't understand this buisness.  I'm not saying i'm some type of authority, but its just a simple money game with studio's.

I'm not entirely opposed to a sequel, but I do have a few reservations.  On this weekend, I plan on writing up an article asking what can be done with a sequel.  In short, a sequel could potentially water down the experience of the first film.  On the same note, making the same movie, just from a different vantage point, could be disasterous.  I'd like to see a tradition motion picture out of a sequel, possibly explaining the events of the first film.  More on this on the weekend.

For now, enjoy some photos of Odette Yustman (Beth) Star of Cloverfield.  As usual, click to enlarge:
