Ernest Reviews Rambo
Two years ago, for Christmas, Sylvester Stallone gave us the gift of Rocky Balboa. A movie that pleased the fans with it's heart-touching warmth. As good as Balboa was, something was missing, something by the name of attitude. If you thought that Balboa was a home run, than Rambo is a game-winning grand slam.
Rambo is the best action film of modern day cinema. This picture is a flesh storm adventure. The violence is real and hurtful, filled with intensity and it makes an impression on the viewers. Stallone, who wrote and directed the film and held nothing back this time around by fully embracing it's roots, without showing any remorse for it whatsoever. The plot may not elaborated, but who cares, it works. It's fits perfectly into the movie, giving Rambo a realistic reason to destroy again. Some critics feel that the dialogue is poor. That's such a bull-shit, easy way out, type of statement to make - just for the purpose of saying something negative. What were they expecting... an on stage Shakespeare production!! The film's dialogue was dry, believable and affective.
Another aspect that I found to be a positive was the film's pace. Taking it's time to show us the human nature of the characters, especially with the Christian aid workers and the team of mercenaries. Giving the movie some space to breath was very helpful and successful to these characters. We as the watchers were able to invest some type of care and understanding into them due to knowing how their minds work. Which to me at least, is a rarity in today's movies. But please know this is about Rambo, the movie is all about action and balls to the wall intensity. With enough blood, carnage and slaughter it will put to shame almost any horror movie that's out there. The film's final act could be the most violent in all of cinema. Truth be told- Stallone has given birth to a blood stained masterpiece. Also much credit to Stallone as a director. He knows his craft well and knows how to set-up the action scene masterfully.
In conclusion, this movie will be legendary. Rambo has set a new high mark for action films and in all honestly I can't remember the last time that I had so much passion for a movie. So please let me make a sort of a cry out to the public. Please go and see this movie. If you saw it and loved it- see it again with some friends, talk about it, spread the good word to the world. Make this movie have strong legs and showing all of Hollywood that this is the kind of high caliber we want from our movies. Movies, made with heart and meaning. Show your love for this movie, cause that's exactly what Stallone did while making it.
Score: 9/10. Brutal- yet dazzling. SEE IT NOW!
