By now many should know about the coming of a 3rd Underworld film.  Its been known for a while that the 3rd film will be a prequel taking place around the time the Vampires and Lycans start their war.  That means no Kate Beckinsale... HOWEVER, Producer Tom Rosenberg hints to Collider, that a 4th film could pick up from where they left off during the 2nd film.  Here is some of the interview from Collider:

Q: It’s interesting you talking about trilogies and at what point did you decide to go with straight to videos as opposed to theatrical releases.  You’ve got Underworld 3 for instance coming out, is that a theatrical release and how do you go about…? 

Tom: It’s a theatrical release definitely.  I feel great about that.  I think it’s the strongest story that we’ve put together of the three.  I think it’s really terrific.  I think it leads to a 4^th.  When we did the 1^st Underworld, we imagined three--the 1^st one, a sequel and then a prequel.  The 3^rd is a prequel, so the 4^th would carry on where Kate and Scott Speedman left off after 2, so I think this is going to be terrific really this one.

Q: I understand the “Underworld” prequel focuses on Michael Sheen’s character.  Can you talk about… Tom: And Bill Nye. Q: And Bill Nye.  Can you talk about giving these characters like leading storylines for a 3^rd film?  Tom: Well, this is really…remember in the first one Michael Sheen’s wife Sonia was killed by Bill Nye—by Victor and that was his daughter.  That was the back-story for Michael Sheen.  Obviously this is how they meet and Michael Sheen becomes the leader of the werewolves.  This is told from the werewolf’s perspective, not the vampire’s.  It’s their story and their battle with Victor. Q: Is it a similar style of action or has that changed up a little too? 

Tom: No, it’s similar.  Now we’re going back.  It’s a prequel. It’s more like the flashback scenes in 2.

Just as a side note, Bill Nighy is spelled Nighy, not Nye.

Anyways, back on target...  I've always like the possiblities that can come from a prequel in the universe of this franchise.  We can hopefully see Vampire on Lycan swordplay actions... meaning no guns.  Guns are always good, but it will be cool to see this change.  Also, that the cast is coming back to reprise their roles to play these characters. Bill Nighy alone, is probably the best Vampire ever.  You'll know Bill Nighy from Pirates of the Carribbean as Davy Jones.  Here in Underworld he is the legendary Viktor.  Thats awesome.  So I'm excited about the 3rd film. I just hope they can do us right.   I myself enjoyed the first and second film, even though the second film wasn't all that great but I still had fun with it.

As for a fourth film... any chance to get Kate Beckinsale back into that tight leather should be considered.. it should be fact and a done deal already.  I don't know why they haven't written a script yet, oh yeah the strike.  Blasted strike.  Seriously, I'd be totally for another movie if that means Kate Beckinsale is back.  No joke.
