Ughhh!  This will make 3 Dune films in the last 25 years.  Thats not including the sequel to the SciFi Channel remake.  Anyways, MTV interviewed Peter Berg for The Kingdom, a film that I do like a lot.  During that interview he confirmed the he is directing the remake.

“Dune” is coming and that he’s the one that will helm it. Calling the plans for him to direct “a done deal,” Berg told me that “if it weren’t for the writer’s strike, we’d be in it right now.”

Berg says that while there’s no script yet, they have a list of writers they plan to go out to once the strike settles. The helmer called himself “a huge fan of the book” and when asked about the scale of the film, he simply replied, “big big big.”

Some people think I'm crazy, but David Lynch's Dune is infact one of my favorite Scifi films.  Its one of the films that got me hook to the genre and turned me into a scifi geek.  The sad thing is most people dislike that film... a lot.  But that doesn't change my opinion.  As Mr. Wall put it in one of his editorials, be your own movie critic.  Thats what i've done and doing.  I love the David Lynch version.  Also, I really do like the Scifi Channel version as well.  It also had a lot of hours to work with compaired to David Lynch.

Peter Berg as director is not a bad thing, but its also not the director I had in mind, or a director that I even considered.  I really like how he handled The Kingdom but that doesn't mean he could handle a film of this size.  He does admit that the scale is 'big big big' and hes damn right about that.  If he's going to stay true to the book, the scale has to be bigger then just big.  Dune is seriously huge compaired to most screen play's and books.  I just hope they can get a good cast for the remake.  Whether you like David Lynchs film or not, you got to admit, the cast was HUGE, talent wise.

As for the remake itself.... its already been remade once, successfully.  To remake it again is just so ridiculous.  Honestly, I don't even seeing this movie making big money, but its way to early to tell.  As everyone knows the remakes are just getting out of hand and Dune is not a movie I think should get remade... again at least.
