Hope For The Writers Guild of American? Strike Maybe Averted?

As most of you or maybe none of you may know, there has been a threatening Hollywood strike on the way, for reasons, that I'm not going to get into at this time, but there is now hope that the writers guild may be making progress.  If you do not know what this strike is all about, you can find the reasons almost anywhere on the net.  Long story short.... it involves the internet and the writers want a piece of the action. Over at Deadlinehollywooddaily, they give us the current situation.

Not just at the Writers Guild of America but all over Hollywood today a deep sigh of relief resounded when the news broke that the movie studios and TV networks withdrew the proposal to let them recoup certain costs before making residual payments. This huge concession occurred one day after the trades were filled with pessimism because the WGA's new hardline strike rules had resulted in a declaration of war from the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers president Nick Counter.

That is very good news.  The studios probably realize that the writers will not give up, and in all honesty, they shouldn't.  That is what unions are for, as I am part of one myself.  The truth of the matter is, the internet is part of the future of entertainment, and the writers SHOULD get a piece of that for there work.  Its seems only fair, right.  I also understand the studio's stand point in wanting to make back the money they put out for making what ever the product is.  All that said, they all make lots of money, more then i'll ever see, so i'm not going to pity anyone who loses.

Remember, just because there is progress for the writers, doesn't mean that the strike will not happen. Come July 1 the actors and directors guild finish up their contracts, and if an agreement is not made with the writers, they could all go on strike.  Then we, the fans, will be screwed for entertainment.

This is also good, because by the sounds of it, the writers won't go on strike early (November) and now the last few episodes of Battlestar Galactica can be written for a smash ending:D

Some writers were actually hoping for the strike as an excuse to take a break from writing.

As far as BSG goes, the have untill 2009 to finish it according to current rumors/news.
